The Xystodesmidae, compared to most millipedes, are relatively large-bodied animals. Although Nannaria and Pachydesmus here aren’t at the utmost extremes, it’s neat to see the range of sizes in these Appalachian members of the family.

Working on some pseudoscorpion drawings. Takes a lot of concentration so slow going. Quite pleased with the results so far. These are drawn from several of my own photos and experience of watching them in the field. #arachnids #invertebrates

I've been digitising my father's transparencies from the 50s and 60s. Unfortunately, some were on unstable film stock and degraded badly. I've finally found a use for AI. Here's an example: My brother and I at HMS Vic circa 1963. I'm at the back.

Someone on iNaturalist thinks this incredible moss-mimicking katydid I photographed in Ecuador is an undescribed species, no idea if that is true, but definitely possible, would be so cool if a taxonomist someday used these photos to describe a new species! www.inaturalist.org/observations...

We took a walk down the valley this afternoon whilst the sun was shining. A few creatures out enjoying the weather, but best of them all was a cluster of Vernal Shieldbugs. 23 adults and 2 nymphs at least. Never seen so many in one place. All on nettles. #bugs #UKwildlife

A good demonstration of how absurdly small insects can get. I was looking at a relatively small (2.5 mm) pteromalid wasp and noticed something stuck to its wing. It was an even smaller wasp.

If there were any justice in the world, every day would be #WorldWombatDay, but today is the official day to celebrate these glorious creatures that crush their enemies with their buttocks, dig burrows tens of metres long, constantly regrow their teeth, have babies called wombatlets, and poop cubes.
