there's a big misconception going around that if you play comp splatoon, your motivation is solely to improve, when that's simply not true for everyone remember that this is a social space and outlet for people as well, and some would prefer just having fun compared to the work it takes to improve

Broward Rashad such a rough time of it for the past decade or so. EA was forcing Bioware to become something and make something that fit EA's mold more than what we loved from Bioware. It was never a good fit, and I fear this was inevitable, but it's still sad. EA sucks.
