THEY ARE NOT POWERLESS TO STOP HIM! Go back to Washington, stand on the steps of the Capitol and demand Johnson and Thune recall the House and Senate, and impeach him. THIS IS HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK! THERE IS LITERALLY AN INSTRUCTION MANUAL! (It's called the Constitution.)

Republican lawmakers are incensed about Trump's dismissal of Ukraine — and powerless to stop him. That frustration hit a new peak on Monday as they sought to address Trump’s decision to purchase Russian diesel, waive sanctions on Moscow, and potentially stop sharing intelligence with Ukraine.

As someone recently diagnosed with ADD, I am simultaneously so grateful for language that helps me recognize, accept, and work with the way my noggin operates; and so reluctant to accept that this makes me somehow "divergent". Divergent from what? What does it mean to be neurotypical? 🧵

Maybe anxiety and overload are appropriate responses to the reality we seem hellbent on adapting to, despite all these signs that it's not good for us. Maybe I'm not overthinking things; if anything, lately it feels like people underthinking things is a more pressing endemic problem.

Throughout my life I've had times where I thought surely I was missing something that everyone else understood - only for it to turn out that I wasn't wrong, but early. Am I resisting the idea that I have a disorder bc I've internalized the stigma against it? Or am I just early?

This isn't to suggest that there's no such thing as disorder or divergence. But it occurs to me that if it's an increasingly big ask for a growing number of people to function in the world as we have (somewhat arbitrarily) engineered it, maybe just maybe we've engineered the world kinda dumb?

In this context, "neurotypicality" (?) feels like it rhymes with "whiteness" in the way it becomes this category whose only characteristic is that we treat it like it's both indescribable AND the default setting against which we measure everything else.

Nearly everyone I know would meet the diagnostic criteria for some flavor of neurodivergence, and I have a hard time believing that life, according to some organic algorithm, has surrounded me with mostly ND people and WE'RE somehow the outliers

I find it really confusing that being an expert in one field makes some folks more convinced in their expertise outside their field, rather than less. Seems like experts, of all people, should know how hard it is to come by expertise, and notice the kinds they haven't worked hard enough to claim.

Can we please just Truman Show him until it's over? Please?

Trump is now posting AI slop of Kharg Island being “blown to smithereens.” If you can’t win the war in real life, apparently you can always retreat into AI fantasies.

One thing that's been bugging me today: people who claim Dolly Parton wasn't political. False. She was very political. Her art and life's work were about interrogating power + amplifying the powerless. You only think she wasn't political because she did this by example, not bullshit slogans.

Headlines: Such-and-such technology may someday be as smart as human brains! Reminder: *We already have human brains.* Billions of them. Most of them living in poverty and being exploited for the obscene benefit of a tiny number of the worst people in the world.

Two arguments I'm tired of hearing about AI in education: 1. "We have to teach students how to use it; AI is inevitable and they need to know how to use it to get ahead." Okay, except is it? Sure seems like folks are increasingly rejecting AI products as careless, lazy, and unreliable(1/?)

OR, could we create an educational system that favors process thinking; tangible, practical results; and self-critique over final products and scores? We need to stop frittering around the edges of an outmoded way of measuring mastery and get purposeful about what we ask of today's students. (4/5)

Anyway. Just some things I'm thinking about as I gear up for a week of institutional encouragement to embrace our robot overlords. Sure hoping I'm wrong; this bubble can't burst fast enough for higher ed. (5/5)

And 2. "That's it - we have to go back to bluebooks, in-class assessments, and hand-written tests." Great, so I guess we're just going to scrap universal design and let our disabled, deployed, employed, chronically ill, care-taking, non-traditional, and/or online students twist in the wind? (3/?)

Plus, ease and seamlessness are what make AI so seductive. Students don't need us to teach them to push buttons. They need us to develop their capacities for critical thinking and discernment via experiences and novel problems. This has always been the work; all that's changed is the urgency. (2/?)

Warning⚠️ Every one of us whether we're a rich business person, a supermarket clerk, a teacher or a plumber is at risk from #ICELawlessness. They can target anyone. If your business has a rival, maybe that rival sends his brother in ICE to detain or harass you. That's authoritarianism inaction.🧵

This is going to be my framing this term. It's non-judgmental, succinct, and (I hope) compelling. It leads with care for students and reverence for the subject matter. Well done!

Working on an A.I. policy for my calculus classes. Decided to be upfront about the current situation with LLMs and to give a heartfelt explanation for why the course still matters.

I've loved watching the U.S. tean. I love our players. But given the way things unfolded above their heads leading up to this game, I'm glad Belgium won. Any victory we could've achieved from here on in would have been tainted. Such hateful lust for ruining even the things he doesn't care about.

imputing consciousness to software is 1. factually wrong, 2. pathetically credulous, 3. dangerous, 4. demeaning to actual life. i admit that it's 2 that pisses me off the most but 3 and 4 are the true problem and they weren't the case, 2 would be less aggravating

So, you know,, sorry to the individuals who wanted a nice thing but I wanted a nice thing too and instead I got thi Maybe, when you don't celebrate the whole country, EVERYONE who belongs here and lives here, the celebration should go to shit and everyone should be miserable

As long as I live, I'll never understand the need to wallow in and spread one's defeatism. Does it comfort you to sow your hopelessness in others? Does it make you feel intellectually and morally superior to people who hope and work for change? Is it how you reconcile yourself to inaction?

They should build loads of data centers all over the place that contain huge quantities of books that people can borrow for free if they fill out a form to get a data center card and promise to return the books on time and don’t make too much noise in the data center.

It’s an insult to “working class voters”—many of whom are women!—to claim that a candidate who represents them is bound to have a history of partner abuse, mercenary soldiering, and acting like a Nazi tattoo is cute.

I fear that this hellish timeline is teaching our young folks that the world is your oyster the moment you learn to overcome your distaste for insincerity.

I feel like I've completely lost the ability to tell whether people are stupid or just on the take, and I think some of that is because so many people are willing to say stupid shit in anticipation of a payout that has not been promised and may never come.

Anyone else look back fondly on the unhinged descriptions of the Skymall catalog, plainly written by people paid too little to be proper corporate shills, or else, as I suspect, by the greatest authors of our time trying to outrun their writer's block via a cheeky side hustle?

I've seldom felt more connected to an author (or, for that matter, to humanity at large) than while in a liminal space tens of thousands of feet in the air, sharing a laugh with an uncredited advertising copy writer over products no one asked for and the unhappy souls who would pay money for them

Anyway. The Skymall catalog feels about as removed as it gets from the AI slop we're forced to choke on these days. In the face of rampant enshittification, I wanna see us invest in the re-Skymallification of as many things as possible.

Listening to the unimpeachable Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack has me a. mainlining nostalgia and b. realizing why so many Boomers are estranged from their children. Every other song is like "Ha ha ha here is how I compensate for my utter lack of emotional self-awareness and it's cute actually"

look, it’s time to embarrass these people. ask them if trump could play quarterback right now for the cowboys, ask them if trump is more mortal or god, ask them if donald trump deserved an oscar for his performance in home alone 2

Is Trump eligible to run for a third term? At some point, playing to an audience of one just makes you look stupid. This judge should hang his head in shame over this non-answer. Any middle school kid knows a United States president cannot serve three terms.

Idk man I feel like even if AI scraped from 100% ethical sources, had zero impact on the environment, and produced gorgeous work, I’d still think you were a bitch for using it

Admittedly not the first trait you're looking for in an FBI director, but can we really blame Kash Patel for concluding he'd been fired when he couldn't open his email? The internet is out here dunking on him for this as if his boss didn't have a penchant for firing ppl on live TV, via tweet, etc.
