Look, I try not to be a prescriptivist about language, but I can't help but notice the irony when, on the one hand, Latinx electeds make a big fuss about how gender inclusive language in Spanish is a corruption of the language and an imposition by English speakers, but on the other hand...

they'll have yard signs that describe a candidate as "Demócrata endorsado," which is a misspelling of "endosado" stemming from the influence of English AND a misuse of the word stemming from English, which is generally limited in its application in Spanish to actual financial documents, not people.

(What I'm saying is that I'm actually in favor of using language the way people use it, so "Demócrata endorsado" is fine, but I'm against hiding bigotry behind supposed linguistic correctness.)

Every few weeks some cynical edgelord who wants to feel More Sophisticated And Leftist than I am will tell me that I've seen the last free & fair election in this country, and my sweet summer child. We have not even seen the first yet.

I feel like once you're in a place called "The Jug," your risk of staring straight down a .44 has increased considerably, and if you then go on to cut the rug with a woman named Linda Lou, well, you're kinda asking for it.

You know how when you go to a concert, you can wear a band shirt, but not the shirt of the band that's playing? That's apparently also true for trains.

On the train to New Haven there was a 50-something man in a tracksuit, fitted cap, and mirrored sunglasses. He got off at West Haven, picked up a mostly full Starbucks iced coffee that had been left on a bench, and began drinking it without hesitation. We live in a world of unfathomable mystery.

The most barbershop conversation ever was my barber talking to the numbers runner and her saying (in Spanish), "Have you seen all these heart attacks that the young people in DR are having?" and him being like, "I know. It's crazy. And you know what the cause is?" and them both saying, "RED BULL."

People underestimate the ability of wild horses to drag them away. It's pretty much exactly what they're built for.

Movie heroes are always uncovering schemes that go ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP. I would like more stories about defeating the evil plots of middle management.

Every carnival ride is basically just a principle of physics, but they've dressed it up with some improbable theme, like "Zeus" (swinging and spinning) or "Rock and Roll" (centrifugal force). Except the pirate ship. That shit is real and true to life.

Here's where we're at with the Department of Children and Families' ability to care for children in its custody with special needs: - DCF has neglected foster care recruitment and compensation for a decade, so there aren't enough homes in general, let alone homes for kids with special needs; ...

- Children with special needs end up in the psychiatric ward of the emergency room, which is quite possibly the worst imaginable place for them, and they languish there because DCF will not pick them up when the hospital says they're ready for discharge; ...

- Judges and administrative hearing officers hear DCF say, "We are trying very hard to place this child but we don't have anywhere," and give DCF the benefit of the doubt, even though DCF HAS FAILED ITS STAUTORY DUTY TO AVOID THIS EXACT PROBLEM; - The kids bear the burden of the agency's neglect.

- All of the institutional placements for children with special needs are outside providers that can reject a DCF-committed kid for any reason or no reason at all, because DCF has neglected its statutory duty to maintain an adequate array of services; ...

The worst thing is to be in a trial and opposing counsel is doing the longest, blandest, least objectionable direct examination. Like

A remake of "The Karate Kid" but it's two sisters from a family in turmoil who learn karate together from an eccentric teacher, and it's set in 19th-century England: "Sensei Sensibility."

The Reese's Oreos slap. Also, coffee ice cream sandwiches, which may have been around forever but only just came to my attention, slap.

(I freehanded the whale on one kind of vinyl wallpaper, then anchored it to another kind, put that weird blue netting over it, and added waves.)
