I am a fan of @long-haul-mag.bsky.social! I've been reading it cover to cover since the first issue came out last year, and I've been consistently impressed with both the depth of thinking and the level engagement with the actual lives of workers of all sorts. Also, it's always beautiful!

In Episode 2 of WHAT REALLY HAPPENED AT PRAIRIELAND, we answer the question: was a shooter hiding in the woods? Was Benjamin Song seen right outside the woods and near the woods, concealed and lying in wait to ambush ICE officers?

WANT TO KNOW what really happened at Prairieland Detention Center last July 4th? The evidence in the Prairieland case has FINALLY been made public, so now you can see for yourself. And BIG SURPRISE - it's NOT what you heard from the government or on the news.

May Day 2026: Honor our martyrs, fight for the living! Pictured: Chicago members and supporters of Black Rose/Rosa Negra stand with a banner in front of the gravesite of the Haymarket Martyrs 🚩🏴 See the May Day statement from Black Rose/Rosa Negra's Labor Committee below 👇

From the article: "13 minors under the age of 6 years old were detained by ICE in Virginia during that same period." Even one is unacceptable.

VPM News@vpm.org

According to an analysis of ICE data, obtained by VPM News through the Deportation Data Project's FOIA-released dataset, ICE has made nearly 11,000 arrests during the period between President Donald Trump's 2025 inauguration and early March '26 During all of 2024, ICE made 1,595 arrests in Virginia

The sham of a trial, and the repression of people who had only published newspapers in the "land of the free," sparked the labor movement worldwide. It's the reason we still celebrate May Day, a hundred and forty years later.

As he stood on the gallows, he spoke words that proved prophetic: "There will come a time when our silence will be more powerful than the voices you strangle today!"

He told the court: "If you think that by hanging us you can stamp out the labor movement—the movement from which the downtrodden millions, the millions who toil and live in want and misery, the wage slaves, expect salvation—if this is your opinion, then hang us!

August Spies was one of the "moderate" anarchists, the editor of a newspaper whose title translated simply to Worker's Paper. He worked 12-16 hours a day on that newspaper, fighting for the eight hour day for everyone else. He kept a circle bomb on his desk in the office.

#OtD 1 May 1886 300-500k workers went on strike and rallies were held across the US, with the cry: "Eight-hour day with no cut in pay." The strike led to the Chicago Haymarket Affair and the start of May Day itself. More in this great book: shop.workingclasshistory.com/en-gb/collec...

The idea that Mutant mentioned reading that book on June 2020 and I thought "Huh, I guess I'll look for people who read this book in 2020" just blows their mind. Now I understand that guy who tried to explain binary searches to a cop must have felt.

The circle of death is: Cut faculty (or non-replace) so you offer fewer classes so fewer people enroll so you cut faculty so you offer fewer classes so fewer people enroll so then the market has spoken.

I hate that contract negotiations are not going better, but this is where we are. Today my colleagues and I @propublica.org are walking out. We need management to come to the table with more serious contract proposals that address our real concerns about discipline, job protections and fair wages.
