I was on here before and my old account is expiring today. Time for a new start, in a new world... Well, either way it's happening in 2 months. Snarky, as usual, but don't take it all too seriously. I block accounts that are abusive or ask me "how I am."

This is just a whine about Capital One... Capital One sends me daily US mail & online ads. I sign up, I give them an image of my driver's license and a facial image, my address, my phone number, my social security, the whole bit. They verify my phone number by sending me a text with a code. 1/6

Before I can send Capital One the driver's license copy & facial image I hear a recording: I am required to allow Capital One to share this information with its partners and others as necessary. it's not an option. 5/6

The Capital One website that wants to collect a digital image of my driver's license doesn't work. Why would they want another phone number in the first place? What security am I offered when I am texted a link to send my information? I close the account. 6/6

I use the card at a restaurant near home. Capital One refuses it. I log into the app and verify my phone number again and find that the card is restricted. I call Capital One and I'm connected to the fraud department. A robot says I'm calling from a verified number associated with my account. 3/6

The fraud dept tells me my phone number isn't verified and want a 2nd phone number. I tell them no I do not have a 2nd. I get a link to upload driver's license & facial images so Capital One can verify the phone number that gets verified at every contact with Capital One, by Capital One. 4/6

I get a Capital One Venture One card and activate it with a phone call. Activation requires that I verify my phone number by text. I sign onto the Capital One app and verify my phone number again by receiving a code so that I can log in. Capital One reports my Venture One card is activated. 2/6

You can't expect the New York Times to give any attention to a story about the president being credibly accused of violent rape when the story breaks so close to an election. It's not like we're talking about something *really* important, like email security protocols.

The Republican solution to murder by guns is its Joe Biden'z fault. Speaker Mike Johnson on school shootings: "The problem is not guns. The problem is the human heart. It's mental health."

Georgia Senate MAGA candidate, Mike Collins translated: Congress has found Joe Biden's powers to be an insurmountable force the GOP cannot overcome.

I'm remembering the arrogance of tech workers that bragged about their secure jobs during the Great Recession... and they didn't know were building their replacements then.

JD Vance: "We're self-confident men in the Trump/Vance administration. The president has been noticing a lot about the physiques of everybody lately"

Me thinks MAGA voters are confused by the consistent and repetitive lying from the Trump administration. A preemptive lawsuit should be filed against the Republican party and its representatives for confusing the electorate.

We wish we had thought about doing something about this 4 months ago when the Alaska Supreme Court issued a decision on the matter, but we didn't do that. We didn't do that because we're waiting for the president to tell us what to do and we don't do anything until the president tells us what to do

Yes, who can forget the violent Reign of Terror (September 5, 1793 – July 27, 1794) in France, which was famously conducted by unassimilated people from third-world countries? [Checks actual history.] Oh, wait. They were French. Yale owes the world an apology for this idiot.

If we were already in a simulation the concept of AGI would be moot. However, what if current AI agents are messing with the simulation?

Marisa's entire piece is terrific, but this part has really stuck with me. A group of College Republicans decided that El-Sayed wasn't "welcome" in the Senate and set out to stop him.

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

It's not a very good campaign message which roughly translates as, we have no campaign, no policy, nothing to tout as a victory, but everyone's against us, and it's not fair.
