Tech executives as famous talking heads is one of those things that I hope goes the way of the dodo. This should he obvious, but success at building or scaling a company is not evidence of wisdom about politics, history, family life, geopolitics, philosophy, etc.

I don't think the state should be in the business of executing its citizens, no matter how heinous the crime. But if an execution is to be had, a firing squad is one of the least cruel means, despite its visual horror - we've seen how lethal injection, for example, is often effectively torture. 1/2

Turning that horror into a public spectacle by livestreaming it, however, is wrong. Whatever one thinks of capital punishment, the state should not make a spectacle of killing. 2/2

Erecting a monument to ego so close to Arlington National Cemetery would dishonor the veterans buried there as well as our country. Any American who still understands the meaning of honor ought to oppose it.

The people who are putting our servicemembers and country at risk are those who ground our readiness down to the bone with an unwise and unsuccessful war. Not the people reporting on it.

The real story isn't that Jennica Pounds (DataRepublican) was too stupid to be a useful idiot. It's that she along with at least three other major MAGA influencers seem to secretly work for the Department of Defense. Neither they nor the department have disclosed this. Makes you wonder.

I'm going to say something controversial here but it shouldn't be: For all the talk about giving Ukraine the license to built Patriot missiles, there very little talk about whether Ukraine actually can manufacture these missiles. 1/5

This is a substantially harder manufacturing problem than the missiles Ukraine has demonstrated it can build domestically. This is an extremely high performance ballistic missile interceptor, where several difficult technologies have to work simultaneously at the edge of their tolerances. 4/5

I know it's easier to just assume corporate greed but I don't think that's the case here. Journalists need to do better on convering this because they are propagating a lot of ideas that are not grounded in technological and industrial reality. 5/5

Partially as a result, people are blaming Lockheed when I do not think they are the blocker. Kyiv needs to decide if the priority is getting PAC-3 production up as fast as possible or if it is domestic production. Because they are not the same. 2/5

Even if Washington and Lockheed handed Ukraine a complete technical data package and unrestricted production license for PAC-3 tomorrow, I don't not have confidence Ukraine could manufacture it. 3/5

Recently, ASML has been a lot in the news. In a new article, we explain why concerns about industrial espionage, reverse engineering and talent poaching miss the critical challenge that the production of lithography machines poses: systems integration. tinyurl.com/3u79rj7e

NATO leaders not accepting the gift of a customized revolver from Turkey at the NATO summit and leaving them in Ankara (UK and Germany) or handing them over to their police back home (Belgium and Canada) is impressively boring and lame. Modern officialdom can drain the romance out of anything.

There are those among you who explained away the Nazi tattoo, then explained away the past rhetoric like when he mocked a wounded soldier & blamed rapes on victims being drunk, and kept on explaining til we got to this. All you did was explain who *you* really are. www.politico.com/news/2026/07...

I am lucky I was born American and nothing has ever made me love my country less. To all my fellow Americans, no matter who you are -- from builder to banker, from teacher to trucker, from pauper to patron -- Happy Independence Day.

Joy at the suffering of others is one of the chief internal conditions leading to evil actions. Obviously Europe needs more air conditioning. As someone who has lived in three European capitals, including during heat waves, I get it and have made this point many times myself for years. (1/3)

European official reluctance and hideboundness on this issue has led to so many deaths, concentrated among the elderly. It is terrible. Governments and elites ought to be held to account. And I hope they will be soon. (2/3)

At the same time, the "poasting" of so many dime-store cultural warriors on X, usually my fellow Americans, savoring the situation, joking about it, and often quite literally celebrating their suffering is execrable.

This encyclical on AI might be the first w/ genuine geopolitical weight/importance since the 1991 encyclical issued by JP II, which sought to explain collapse of communism while warning the West not to mistake markets/consumption for a complete vision of freedom. And this one is far more ambitious.

All the turpitudinous hacks, brutish warmongers, well-fed chickenhawks & oily compradors who’ve spent their careers pushing for war w/ Iran & brought us to this ghastly wreck are already blaming everyone but themselves. Don't know what happens next but remember who built this coffin plank by plank

I pity those who go prospecting for geopolitical insights from techbro podcasts like the All In Podcast. It's like learning seamanship from a guy who once rented a jet ski in Cabo.

Travis makes some good points here. We should not have published an article that directly encouraged an award to a specific FFRDC

About everything in this article is correct except for directly encouraging an award of a specific contract to a think tank and FFRDC when other organizations are actually doing work in this area. Also, it calls for a single macro game when many small games may do. warontherocks.com/cogs-of-war/...
