This does call into question Maine polling. But also highlights Jackson’ strength in that he’s beating Collins in a neutral environment (which no one thinks is possible).

the 2026 Massachusetts 1st CD Democratic primary, a contest between long term incumbent Richard Neal, and Educator/Political newcomer Jeromie Whalen resulted in a surprisingly narrow 8% Renomination for Neal, coming just 6 years after his barnburner contest against Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse.

Here, Neal, the longtime Democratic head of the powerfull house Ways and Means committee faced a strident challenge from his left in an environment that had seen incumbent Dems struggling to get renomination over insufficient opposition to Trump.

However, the unexpected nature of the closeness of the contest, mixed in with Whalen's political inexperience and compared-to-other campaigns obscurity aided in the incumbent in regaining renomination, and another term in Congress in the safely blue seat.

In the meantime, two main groups fought it out, the local Cataño political establishment that was headed by the former mayor, and the team of the current Governor Jenniffer González Colón, with both teams seeking to move money and people towards their candidate

as a consequence, Hiram Torres was able to beat Bethaida Rodriguez, claiming the mayoralty, and large budget, of the Cataño mayoralty.

Here, the race was dominated first and foremost, by Hiram Torres' scandal where he refused to resign his position as DACO secretary while running for an election, as he was required to do, resulting in a monthlong legal battle that SCOPR refused to take up, and maintained with his certification.
