European nations asked to prepare for 3C of climate warming Good luck My suspicion is combined disruption to food production & supply chains, building unusability with heat & flooding, increased migration etc means civilisation as we know it would collapse by 3C www.euronews.com/2026/10/27/e...

euronews.comEU wants capitals to adjust to warming of 3°CAs Brussels warns that Europe must prepare for increasingly extreme weather, new EU rules will require governments to clarify who is responsible for climate preparedness – but no new funding is being ...

"Pragmatism" would be to announce a serious decarbonisation strategy, not to kowtow to fossil fuel executives during a time of record heatwaves whilst still regurgitating industry talking points. Profound incompetence from a coterie of cowards.

Approving the Jackdaw gas field solves none of our problems, while contributing to the existential crisis of climate breakdown. The government has privileged special interests above the general interest. It's a shameful, cowardly decision.

The IPCC, the UN's climate science panel, has failed to agree a timeline for its next next big report. Was due in 2028, but some countries have been pushing for it to be delayed until 2029.

So far, a strange lack of interest in the protests sweeping Europe, distinct in each country but broadly connected in their disdain for the hollowing out of public services and the spiralling cost of living. As ever, where are the Brits? It always seems to pass us by, elites and activists alike.

At some point, the British left does need to pull itself together and stop being so whiny. There are riots about housing costs sweeping Europe and everyone in London is going dum-de-dum-de-dum-diddly-dum-de-dum.

It can sometimes seem like stating the obvious that the Trump regime does things that are evil, but this is evil. There's not another word for it. It is so corrosive and degrading that it will permanently disfigure the society which permits it. It is sheer barbarism.

BREAKING US execution by firing squad of Fort Hood shooter to be livestreamed: Pentagon official

Watched this in the cinema last night, it is a devastating and very important film. Haunting.

Guardian US@us.theguardian.com

Watch the official trailer for NAZA, an award-winning documentary produced by the Guardian that details the systems behind Israel’s mass killings in Gaza. It will be released in cinemas in more than 50 countries in the coming weeks, and then will stream on the Guardian’s website, for free.

After passing the Hillsborough Law, the Government have now announced a consultation on curtailing the work of the Undercover Policing Inquiry. This would be yet another miscarriage of justice. The spy cops scandal must be investigated in full.

Netpol@netpol.org

The Undercover Policing Inquiry was established in 2015. It was originally expected to conclude within 3 years, yet the Metropolitan Police has done everything it can to drag it out for over ten years. Now the government is seeking political cover to shut it down www.gov.uk/government/c... #spycops

Absurd decision by the Court of Appeal to uphold the ban on direct action via the proscription of Palestine Action as "terrorism". The idea that support for a protest group is now punishable by up to 14 years in prison make a mockery of our democratic rights. A dark day for British democracy.

This comes after the Filton case last Friday, which was the first time in Britain that anyone has faced terrorism enhancements without being actually convicted of terrorism. And all done without the jury ever knowing. The right to a fair trial is under attack.

It's beginning to sound glib to say "think about what Nigel Farage will do with these powers" every time the Labour government unveils another authoritarian or racist policy. After all, this is what Labour are doing right now. But categorising protest as terrorism is truly a slippery slope to hell.

Absurd decision by the Court of Appeal to uphold the ban on direct action via the proscription of Palestine Action as "terrorism". The idea that support for a protest group is now punishable by up to 14 years in prison make a mockery of our democratic rights. A dark day for British democracy.

Their ruling just now: "[Palestine Action] is not, as it claims, a direct action civil disobedience protest group like the suffragettes, operating transparently in the open." Wildly ahistorical stuff. How can judges with such a poor grasp of protest history sit in judgement over such a case?

As Israeli soldiers massacre Palestinians at aid distribution points, our government continues to provide Israel with military, intelligence, and political support. For Starmer and Lammy, the blood will never wash off.

Saul Staniforth@saulstaniforth.bsky.social

"... the Hamas run Gaza health ministry saying that 51 Palestinians have been killed & at least 200 wounded in the southern city of Khan Younis. Witnesses say Israeli forces carried out the attack while people were waiting for.. trucks with much needed aid"

Watching the overton window shift rightward as the Starmer government cedes ground on everything from benefits to public spending, migration to human rights, is truly depressing. But vital to remember that we have agency here too. Mass mobilisation doesn't just randomly happen!

The Palestine protests have been an admirable exception, but - let's be honest - we've otherwise neglected mass mobilisation on the UK left. Yeh, it's hard. Yeh, nobody wants to fund it. But it's important and it actually affects things, creates things, sparks new possibilities.

You are up to date.
