one of the really useful takeaways from fukuyama's political order books is a clear conceptual understanding of what corruption *is* in its fundamental nature. and the answer... is patronage networks organized on personal connections! corruption is *inherent* in these discretionary systems!

Question 3 is basically a litmus test on “why do they build bike lanes if nobody uses them?” If the city can’t put together a network then people won’t ride and they’ll stick with cars. It’s that simple.
Question 3: Q3 speeds up the process to build bike and bus lanes, and removes months from the timeline to put in new safety infrastructure. Bike and bus lanes *should* be simple to put in - let the Department of Transportation do their jobs. Vote yes.

No fatalism please. A victory agaibst the odds over an authoritarian.
The long-serving strongman leader of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has conceded defeat in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.

Did you ever think the Clio V6 was too big and had too few cylinders? They did too. Hot damn 🔥 Meet the Twingo V8 Trophy. 3.5-litre Rover V8 behind the front seats. No back seats. Rear-wheel drive. Five-speed manual. Huge arches and 320mm-wide rear tyres. www.instagram.com/p/DemmElaCFGG

The fact that the highway only existed for ~50 out of Utrecht’s 900 years shows that car-centric design is going to be a blip in history.
Before and after: 6 years ago, Utrecht restored the Catharijnesingel. Once filled in during the 1970s to make way for traffic, the historic canal now flows again around the old city, lined with pedestrian paths, bike lanes, and a park-like landscape.

Ultimately this is my problem with car people. They only see scenarios in which they suffer zero inconvenience as worthy compromises. They will never give up anything of value to anyone else. And they think this makes them the heroes.
At least they finally said what they’re protesting after prodding by @brooklynspoke.bsky.social. Never mind that DOT presented the Flatbush plans over and over again. Compromise to these people - who admit to driving everywhere - just means getting what they want. www.instagram.com/p/De2hqSSo6l...
Again, the point is that the fact that this stuff is entirely arbitrary and capricious. The folks who got arrested checked to make sure they weren’t violating any laws — but because of who they were, their acts were made to be illegal by fiat.
All the rabbis and advocates detained while accompanying Palestinian farmers have now been released. But the IDF’s own map shows they were detained in an area that did not require prior coordination. 1/2

So, this story is about Pursuit.org, the nonprofit I work for. This opportunity is the main reason I decided to pause being a full-time indie and gave up teaching my AI workshops a few months ago.
The entire point of the stunt is because @bradlander.bsky.social getting arrested has gotten 1000x the press that any other attack on Palestinian farmers has gotten. That’s *exactly* what the freedom riders were trying to do.
Not probably. They ABSOLUTELY would have (and should have) because getting the word out to a skeptical public is an important part of making change

I mean, fuck, if you think @bradlander.bsky.social is acting as a provocateur by going and legally standing next to a bunch of Palestinian farmers legally picking olives on their own land to protect them from assault by Jewish terrorists (and yes, that's what people who attack civilians are), the

In the legal profession, I believe this is known as “a stretch.”
NEW: DOJ argues that having LULAC / NAACP intervene and oppose the TRO request in DOJ's lawsuit against California "creates additional unnecessary work for the Court and for the attorneys" because the civil rights lawyers are "filing motions, calling, and requesting meetings and briefing schedules."
The ultimate problem here is that it is automatically presumed that his colliding with the cyclists was an accident. We don't presume that when someone gets shot the person with the gun "accidentally" pulled the trigger!
This guy was caught on video committing one of the worst road rage incidents I've ever seen, plowing into a group of riders—and then he left the scene. Seriously, fuck the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for framing him as some sort of a victim. You are complicit assholes. www.ajc.com/news/2026/10...

Why does Russia always get "look what you made me do" excuses? Did former Soviet states seek to join an anti-Russian alliance for no reason? Even worse, NATO turned down Ukraine's request, and a main reason was concern for Ukraine's ongoing issues with Russia, even if they weren't Ukraine's fault.
Yeah Branko, America ‘goaded’ Russia by supporting a free an independent Eastern Europe. You hack.
This is *one section* of Borden Ave. But even in residential areas there are cars on sidewalks and it is nearly impossible to get the city to remove them. Right now there’s at least two cars on the sidewalks at Bergen & Underhill and I haven’t been to that corner in a week. I just know that.
It's crazy how often you hear about "bikes on the sidewalk" when this is the actual reality in NYC
Wait I (as a straight white guy) would absolutely humiliate myself by making AES look good for $250k. I’d make AES look good for free, but $250k would be a nice bonus.
Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.
