"Can't let you do that, Star Fox" I provide the voice of Wolf O'Donnell in Star Fox for the Nintendo Switch 2. You can also hear me as Bill Grey, Granga Pilot, and Meteo Crusher Pilot. It's a privilege to contribute to the legacy of a series I've enjoyed since I was 5.

I'd like to acknowledge Jock Blaney, who also played Wolf and Bill in Star Fox 64. Jock passed away earlier this year. I'm not the first actor to portray these characters, and I'm sure I won't be the last. I hope you can appreciate what we've done this time. Long live Star Fox

Escape From Ever After is definitely the MOST Paper Mario of the Paper Mario-likes. Also probably the best? The game's premise recognizes that much of what makes golden age Paper Mario funny is how it lovingly subverts what you think you know about the Mario world. Great game to kick off 2026. 4/5

The Sammys 2025: 10. Citizen Sleeper 2 9. Tiny Bookshop 8. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond 7. Blue Prince 6. Stray Children 5. Hades 2 4. Silent Hill f 3. Promise Mascot Agency 2. Donkey Kong Bananza 1. Silksong Pretty good year! Hopeful for 2026

All you need to know about Promise Mascot Agency is that it's a management sim card battler set in a Showa era town that you chaotically barrel through in your winged truck. The Yakuza influence is clear, but it would be insane to accuse this game of lacking originality. Bewildering and perfect.

Bewildering news from Microsoft today. As always, Schreier is the guy to follow for updates. To say I hope everyone lands on their feet okay feels ridiculous

This morning, Zenimax Online Studios told staff that their MMO project Blackbird was canceled and abruptly deactivated the team's access to Slack. Three hours later, team members have no idea if they have jobs. They still have access to email and Teams but have not heard from HR or management

The First Berserker: Khazan is more Niohlike than Soulslike. It makes some clever tweaks to the formula, but is weak on vibes. Fascinatingly bland script delivered by an extremely talented voice cast. Also: too hard. A rare DNF, for me.

When a boss kills you, the game puts your Lacrima (souls) outside the room, a la Hollow Knight. But it gives you extra proportional to how far you whittled the boss's HP down. So beating your head against a boss grinds level-up currency. I think every Soulslike from now on should copy this verbatim.

I will play better games this year, but none will make me smile like Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. I always reach the end of these games surprised that Ryu Ga Gotoku managed to sneak a genuinely moving story into a funhouse of evil idols and underdog taco salesmen. They did it again!

Citizen Sleeper 2 is like if Disco Elysium wasn't funny at all. The prose gets a little purple, for my liking, but that's probably inevitable in a game with so many transcendentally beautiful moments. Can't make an omelette etc etc. I highly recommend it to people who like Books.

Still playing catch-up on 2024 games. Indika dares to ask "what if those Plague Tale games were awesome?" You play as a sad nun with a mysterious past in 19th century Russia, on a mission to deliver a letter while navigating severe religious psychosis. You can hold L2 to Pray.

Salóme Gunnarsdóttir (Maria in the Silent Hill 2 Remake) performed the motion capture for the character while pregnant. Daily reminder that developments in technology are great when they allow more artists to do more cool shit—not less.

Director-writer David Lynch, who radicalized American film with with a dark, surrealistic artistic vision in films like “Blue Velvet” and “Mulholland Drive” and network television with “Twin Peaks,” has died. He was 78. bit.ly/40is3yQ

Regardless of what this Apple settlement actually means: if the results of a legal data-collection system are indistinguishable from mass covert surveillance, then it probably shouldn't be legal.

Doomily treating tech dystopia as inevitable or here does the work of the bosses. Pedantically correcting those disturbed by the comprehensive invasion of privacy we're all feeling—does the work of the bosses.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is maybe the biggest surprise of 2024. MachineGames' new first-person adventure de-emphasizes gunplay, and focuses instead on the very-Indiana Jones moment when stealth fails and improvisatory melee tomfoolery commences. Unexpected and very late GOTY.
