I appreciate that people want a new Mass Effect, but the future where fans advocate for the work itself and not the people who make it is the one the vultures at EA want. If you'll take it however you get it, they can keep treating people who make what you love as expendable.

kotaku.comWhat Does It Even Mean To ‘Save’ Mass Effect? - KotakuThousands of fans are rallying around a campaign to save the series after BioWare's shutdown, but what does that look like?

If this is real it looks mood-wise like everything you'd want from a new Mass Effect

Kotaku@kotaku.com

One day after EA shut down BioWare, a trailer has begun circulating for what some claim was supposed to be Mass Effect 5, a game called Mass Effect: Universe starring Liara T'Soni and a new protagonist. https://kotaku.com/mass-effect-5-universe-leaked-trailer-liara-bioware-2000748858

The ability to handle ambiguity in life and art is a sign of maturity and I am so bothered by how many people don’t seem to trust other people to be able to process these things. It’s the same impulse that leads to yelling at headlines for not explicitly saying something is bad.

I thought it was a slam dunk for my best of list but it is really alienating me with all the nonsense

Fortune's Weave is a great Fire Emblem game, but it is also the *most* Fire Emblem game. I tried to understand my feelings of frustration with the bloat alongside the joy I've experienced playing it for 70-plus hours. defector.com/how-much-fir...

Modern Warfare 4 testers vote to authorize a potential strike after negotiations on their first union contract stall. The group accuses Activision of dragging its feet on key issues. The Call of Duty publisher is promising "no disruption to players or upcoming game releases."

NEW: Democratic Congress member Ritchie Torres is introducing legislation in Congress to regulate digital video game ownership. "A game that can be taken away the moment a company pulls the plug is not a purchase. It is a rental disguised as a sale."

If players' voices coming out of your speakers freaks you out please DM me or thread for a story I'm doing. For example, your child has downloaded a seemingly benign game only for it to load them into an open mic with a strange man by default who now sounds like he's in your living room!

If you know someone who knows someone who has any experience with the user research that drives UX decisions AGAINST creating situations where strangers randomly start loudly talking in your living room, I would ESPECIALLY be interested to chat with you.

I also want Vertical Slice to evolve beyond the confines of a traditional paper. That's why I'm launching The Repository, a growing (free) collection of pitch decks and design docs donated by generous contributors including @kitfoxgames.com, @outersloth.com, and @outerloopgames.bsky.social.

“Staggering.” “Overwhelming.” “Surreal.” “Pure insanity.” Those were among the descriptions more than three dozen mathematicians reached for in conversations with The Verge as they tried to make sense of the flood of mathematical results OpenAI abruptly dropped on the field this week.

For @kotaku.com I previewed Phantom Blade Zero one last time and took a while to dig into S-Game's "several hundred million dollar" investments, a second sci-fi project that the team is working on and the game director's origins working an RPG-Maker game telling the same story back in 2010.

kotaku.comPhantom Blade Zero's Fast-Paced Action Took 15 Years, Two RPG-Maker Games, And A Whole Lot Of Money To Bring To LifeS-Game is finally nearing the release of Phantom Blade Zero, and as part of previewing it one last time, I discovered this game has a whole lot of history

Spent the last few nights trying to track info about the Chinese indie game circa 2010, which, as someone who speaks no Chinese, you'll be surprised to learn is kinda difficult.

Back in May, Double Fine employees petitioned for a union. Two weeks later, that petition was withdrawn. What happened? https://kotaku.com/inside-the-failed-fight-to-unionize-one-of-gamings-most-idealized-studios-2000742755

Tim Schafer talks to us about the union fight at Double Fine earlier this year: "It’s weird to work on a company for 25 years and then have a dramatic thing like this all of a sudden kind of take control of your ways of communicating and it felt like this isn’t usually how we resolve things."

Seeing online chuds get mad about E-Day having women soldiers/commanders has been so funny. It reveals instantly to me they either are full of shit (likely) or haven't played past games (also likely). Women have been barking orders at dudes, killing Locust, and kicking ass since the 360 era.
