We're grateful to CEDAW Alliance Germany, an alliance of 34 women's and gender equality organizations working to strengthen the implementation, visibility and relevance of CEDAW in Germany, for signing our statement. 💖

We're grateful to @frauenrat.bsky.social@boell.de, @juristinnenbund.bsky.social & many others for joining the call. ❤️
If Americans need our little southern recipe for how to defeat fascism it goes like this:
- Put people in the streets by standing for popular demands (wages, healthcare, public services)
- Do not engage with fascists online
- Do not succumb to doomsayers or media-driven narratives
- Be happy
Congrats to Lula on overcoming Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump to defeat Hospital Pervert Jr., even as his opposition literally blocked off roads and turned off bus service during election day.
Fascists are scary but they are always, 100% of the time, ultimately gigantic fucking losers.
The persecution of @repilhan.bsky.social just days before an election is vile and politically-motivated.
I'm leading 175 House Democrats in denouncing this. When we retake power, we have to seriously look at how we can stop these abuses of power — starting with the power of the purse.
I named a character in MAZYWOOD “Priscilla Stephens” after my 88-year-old aunt, a 1960s civil rights warrior in ailing health. She came to my book signing in Miami and was surprised to hear her name in my reading. 😍 I am still trying to raise money to help offset her bills.

A great year for picking up new punk releases at the record store.
Do you have a favorite that came out this year? For me, it’s a no-brainer: the debut album by the DK's.

Part 2 of my suburban gothic novelette, Open House, is up! I'm serializing it on Substack, one post per day, with the finale on Halloween. All free. #HorrorLit#BookSky#WritingCommunitysubstack.com/home/post/p-... 🩸📚
It does the dishes, laundry, and grabs the groceries while researchers read and analyze the papers? That's what would help them focus, right? Cutting out other distractions so scientists can do the work of peer review, right?
The Irish ran an experiment with a Guaranteed Income for artists. They kept working in their art, net gain for the economy, and better health.
Universal Basic Income can work for everyone, simplifying taxes & supporting those unable to work full time
Hmmm. Well… let’s find out.
How about a little informal poll?
Hey everyone, let’s see what the party wants…
If you want Schumer to STEP DOWN from leadership, REPOST THIS.
If you want Schumer to remain in his leadership role, LIKE THIS.
(Please don’t do both, lol)
I’m excited to share my second finished Halloween project of the season, a turnip Jack-o’-lantern! The practice of decorating jack-o'-lanterns originated in Ireland, where large turnips were hollowed out, carved and turned into lanterns with the intention of warding off unwanted visitors. 🎃
FFS the Iran war may actually be over pistachios. A different reel I saw about this had me go looking for more about the Resninks (Wonderful Company) farming pistachios in California has been working to put an end to Iran's pistachio market.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.
My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.
Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

You wanna know why the disabled dont buy that bullshit about ai being an "accessibility tool"?
Because we recognize the use of ai is disabling more people.
Its harming actual communities where these data centers are built.
Data centers are poisoning the environment around them.
Well, well, well….
An analysis of voter registration records reveals Republican operative Scott Presler had 3 out-of-state voters use his Pennsylvania address to vote in the 2024 election.
This is what voter fraud looks like.
I’m Pied Piper, a Democratic legislative and campaign staffer, and I’m begging you not to vote for an anti trans Democrat anywhere in the country.
It is actively worse for the party for any of them to win than for them to lose, and it’s much worse for the most vulnerable among us.
our system is set up to favor the major parties
we have to push out ken martin and all the democrats who want it to be the party that will throw trans people under the bus and defend israel’s genocide and continue to fuck over working people
as much as i’d rather build something new, we have to takeover and gut the democratic party
all that infrastructure belongs to the people, not the loser ass DCCC consultant class that has reduced it to nothing since the clinton era

There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere*
Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines
As a species we decided, “we will survive”
Let’s do that some more
Sara R. Farris discusses transphobia and anti-gender mobilization as a new frontier of femonationalism, the proliferation of authoritarian, self-proclaimed "feminist" collectives, and much more.
I'd like to see more cis allies grapple with the crazy making environment trans ppl are living in right now the way that Hauser grapples with that here.
There is no one right way to understand this, in part bc there's no one way all trans ppl experience it.
But really sitting with it is important.
I try to imagine it—hearing a vicious, down-is-up simulacrum of my lived experience wielded as a tool & a weapon, every single day, on the heels of all the other ways, implicit & explicit, I'm dehumanized by my society, culture, & politics—& I can't. I only know how it looks from here, & it's vile.
