Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

Edgar Wilson cleans roadkill in rural Brazil until vultures lead him into a quest that becomes an exhortation about dignity for the forgotten and discarded. Ana Paula Maia's novel about two working men and a day that changes everything is out now. https://charcopress.com/bookstore/bury-your-dead

I read it this morning and was still thinking about it on the drive home!

The message booksellers are getting for Q4 is December is going to be (another) shitshow. Paper and ink shortages, printer back-ups, warehouse back-ups/staffing shortages, carrier delays. Order up now, we’re being told. Who knows what stock will be available later.

"And we had to type in frontlist orders. By hand! None of this importing nonsense."

On this day in 1973, the Gov’t Printing Office agreed that “Ms.” was an acceptable optional identifying label in gov’t publications. Feminists had fought for recognition of the Ms. honorific, which enabled women to present themselves in public without foregrounding their marital status. #WeTheMen

I can’t promise that this is the first time a Canadian publisher of a beloved children’s book series has publicly condemned the bloodthirsty US secretary of defense’s use of its imagery to smirkingly defend heinous war crimes. I mean who can say.
