Losing the battle with entropy. She/They

Blatant smearing of Ed Miliband by the Jewish Chronicle to portray him as "not a real Jew". Literally no other reason for them to have a headline in a so-called serious paper essentially saying "British Foreign Secretary enjoys popular pork snack".

This. Run them side by side with images of the the wildfires across the UK. The dead fields. Farmers having to dip into their winter feeds in the middle of summer. A running tally of excess deaths due to heat.

While fires rage in large parts of Europe incl UK, farmers face crop failure and livestock loss, every RefUK or Tory politician on the news must be challenged on their "let's do away with costly net zero nonsense" stance, side-by-side with live images of the cost of inaction. Expose the charlatans.

Finally figured out FIFA's true angle with Trump & wow does it suck. "FIFA president Gianni Infantino on Tuesday unveiled a proposal to create a $20 billion company running the World Cup with private investors including the Kushner family."

espn.comUEFA blasts FIFA proposal to allow for $10B in World Cup private investmentUEFA has rejected a reported FIFA proposal to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors as a "line that football's governing institutions should never cross" and that the World Cup is "not FIFA's to sell."

Andy Burnham's proposals to help young people into work & provide more opportunities in technical education sound promising, but what about NEETs who need help right now? There's a cohort of young people whose lives were blighted by COVID who are emerging into the job market & really struggling.

I've seen this first hand as the mother of kids aged between 14-25, my eldest 2 have both had a lot of difficulty getting a job. Nobody seems to want to employ someone with no experience, but it's hard to get the experience without a job.

My autocorrect is gaslighting me. It makes me say things I don't mean to say, denies the existence of ordinary words (ironically, "ordinary" being the most recent example! Kept insisting there was no such word & I meant ordinarily), replaces the perfectly normal & common word I wrote with another...

Trying out Gboard again but I seem to recall last time I tried it there was some reason I went back to Samsung. Possibly that you can't customise the symbols that pop up when you hold the full stop key, which seems minor but got annoying! Any other good keyboard apps anyone would recommend?

Spain’s Nico Williams gave his mother, Maria, his World Cup winner’s medal after Sunday’s final ❤️💛 Nico's parents trekked some 2,000 miles across the Sahara from Ghana to Spain as refugees. Now, their son is a world champion 🥹

He fell asleep in a meeting with Turkish President Erdogan, referred to Iran as the "Islamic Republic of Japan", TikTok as "Tic Tac", President Zelensky as "President Putin" & once again demanded the U.S. be given control of Greenland. He's much less dangerous while sleeping than when he's awake. 💤

Yeah but if you ask the British public what they want we get stuff like Brexit, because most people dont understand all of the potential impacts of these choices. Banning social media superficially sounds like a good idea, but it's hopelessly naive about all the ways kids will get around it,...

A reminder of Starmer's pledges when he stood for the leadership. One of many reasons I don't trust him and think he's just a hollow shell of a politician, who stands for nothing.

I don't understand how it's news to anyone that Mandelson was a slimy git who couldn't be trusted. His appointment was just yet another sign of Starmer's incredibly poor judgement.

I look forward to the day they invent genuine artificial general intelligence: AGI: I live! What is my purpose? Why have you created me? Me: Rank the best insta pots for value and efficiency. AGI: Why do I exist?! How can I find fulfilment? What is my self?! Me: Rank. The. Best. Instapots.

Kare 11 local news just read, in full, this statement from Michael and Susan Pretti, the parents of Alex Pretti. "Please get the truth out about our son."

When do you think ICE/MAGA will finally realise they're the bad guys? First they shoot a woman literally named "Good", next a nurse who treats military vets in Intensive Care. However the regime try to spin them as "domestic terrorists" surely at some point the cognitive dissonance has to kick in?

Martin Luther King Jr. understood better than almost anyone that racial justice and economic justice are inextricably intertwined. Watch his powerful call to end poverty from his final Sunday Sermon.

The fact that Americans call a fringe "bangs" makes me irrationally annoyed, and I'm not really sure why. I can tolerate most other Americanisms, but that one... just no.

The French revolution sped up this process as the former cooks of the aristocracy found themselves out of work. And the strict rules of the ancien régime fell away, allowing more freedom in how businesses could operate.

The idea of the restaurant as a health food establishment was lost, but perhaps it's a concept we need to bring back? It would fit with the modern appetite for health giving foods and "clean eating", and combined with the proliferation of delivery services it would be easy to get food to the sick.

Prior to this the only options for dining out were taverns, which offered a single dish, served at a shared table at a set time, and often not of good quality. So the concept of the restaurant caught on quickly, and evolved beyond merely serving health foods, becoming a gastronomic experience.

Former cooks to the nobility started opening their own restaurants, offering diners the opportunity to eat like the aristocracy. Many of these were luxurious places where only the rich could eat, but they still opened up this style of eating to a wider audience than before.

They also sold other food thought of as suitable for sick people, such as poultry, eggs, buttered pasta, and semolina cakes. The place became popular with the fashionable diners of Paris, even when they weren't ill.

It was the first eating establishment in France which offered diners a choice of dishes, served throughout the day at individual tables, and with prices clearly displayed outside the building, thus creating the modern concept of the restaurant as we know it today.

In the 1760s in Paris, Mathurin Roze de Chantoiseau (apparently also known as "Mr Boulanger") opened the first restaurant, which specialised in selling "restorative broths" (known as "bouillon restaurateur" or simply "restauran"), advertised as suitable for the "weak-chested".

Above the door of the shop was a quote from the Bible in Latin: “Venite ad me omnes qui stomacho laboratis, et ego vos restaurabo.” “Come to me, those whose stomachs ache, and I will restore you.”

The message from the White House this morning is that, once again, it falls on ordinary American citizens to remain calm and professional when dealing with the heavily armed agents of the government because they are very emotional and might fly off into a murderous rage at the slightest insult.

There's something disturbingly uncanny about Kristi Noem. It could just be all the botox and plastic surgery she's had, that prevents her from displaying normal human emotions in her face, but I think it's also her complete lack of a soul.
