I’m sorry you don’t like property taxes; are they affecting your ability to eat at Applebee’s six times a week

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

not a big deal. I did well at pub trivia once and tell people I passed a bar exam

I have it on good authority that James Talarico was absent from the campaign for nine days because he checked himself into Union Theological Seminary, where he underwent intensive training in more social gospel talking points

public executions by an authoritarian admin speak volumes about shifting ideas of sovereignty, discipline, and the sacred. In this case, those shifts are perilous

Deneen’s focus on nostos and restlessness in the Odyssey is flat but easily allows him to smuggle in right wing views. His reading cannot structurally connect the Phaeacians with Polyphemus and ultimately with Odysseus arriving in Ithaca as a stranger, the way, say, xenia does

Transparent cash grab by these losers. They included the pastor who famously malfunctioned for hours after he had a waitress who wore yoga pants. Basically disturbed individuals with podcast equipment religionnews.com/2026/09/24/t...

STOP ASKING YOUR SON "HOW WAS SCHOOL." HE'LL SAY "FINE" EVERY SINGLE TIME. A CHILD PSYCHOLOGIST TOLD ME TO REPLACE IT WITH THESE 3 QUESTIONS INSTEAD: “What can I know?” “What should I do?” “What may I hope?”

also, certain aspects of Rawls can be almost spiritual practices if you take them seriously. Liberalism as a way of life

years ago I shed the veil’s more technical implications and view it as basic political empathy. Too many arguments boil down to “if I look like X, have history Y, and/or believe Z, I should occupy a different level in society”

becoming a vulgar rawlsian. the veil of ignorance isn't perfect, but 'is this how you would design things if *you* thought you might end up here?' is a test that way too many people fail. on everything from criminal justice to public transit, across the ideological spectrum.

You’re right—that plane shouldn’t have gone there. That’s my fault, and I should have made sure there wasn’t a terminal in the landing path. Would you like me to call emergency services, or assist with lining up takeoffs?

Barron’s dishonest eristics often work like this. Notice the subtle merger of empathy as “feeling with others” with “never hurting feelings.” Empathy is the former, not the latter. He combines them so he can pretend empathy is not a supreme gospel value, which it obviously is
