Excited to share this review from PhD student Niladri Bhowmik about the roles natural products in the cystic fibrosis airway! This paper was years in the making and reviews more than 50 antibiotics, siderophores, signals, and toxins produced by CF pathogens. pubs.rsc.org/np/article/d...
A major part of my PhD is out in ASM’s mSpectrum! We tracked pathogen interactions in children with CF including 𝘗. 𝘢𝘦𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘴𝘢, 𝘚. 𝘢𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘶𝘴 and 𝘏. 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘻𝘢𝘦. 𝘗. 𝘢𝘦𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘴𝘢 showed reduced antagonism already in early childhood. journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/...
A big thank you to all the co-authors who made this research possible: Roger, Serena, @phoebesilva.bsky.social, Philipp, @friendlymicrobe.bsky.social, Markus and @rkmicrobes.bsky.social
🧫 Tired of choosing between complex co-cultures and high throughput? Kineta™ brings membrane-separated co-culture into a standard 96-well dimension. 🔬 Go beyond pairwise interactions 📈 Follow interactions kinetically 🔍 For mmicroscopy 🤖 Automation-ready www.versarys.ch

Multiple small, curved, predatory bacteria (Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus) lyse the bacterial prey remnants below. How are they doing this & which predator proteins are involved in this process? See our newly released research article 📑 => rdcu.be/eL6gu 🦠 #microsky #bacteria #PredatoryBacteria
Published now @asm.org mSystems! After experimental evolution, we used a multiomics approach to explore how the pathogen 𝘚. 𝘢𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘶𝘴 adapts to 𝘗. 𝘢𝘦𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘴𝘢 secreted metabolites and examined the impact on antibiotic resistance. journals.asm.org/doi/full/10....
Very happy to share our new preprint! We used proteomics and targeted metabolomics to study how 𝘚. 𝘢𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘶𝘴 copes with inhibitory compounds secreted by 𝘗. 𝘢𝘦𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘴𝘢. Big thanks to the @fgcz-en.bsky.social for this great collaboration!

New paper out in ISME Journal. Social interactions between strains shape bacterial communities. However, their impact on community functioning is lower compared to basic strain identity features. @joskramer.bsky.social @alexfig.bsky.social @simonmarech.bsky.social academic.oup.com/ismej/advanc...
🎉Join us at the 5th Swiss Young Microbiologists Symposium (SYMS) – June 13th, 2025 - at the University Hospital Zurich! 💡Interactive keynote interview with Prof. Adrian Egli on "Microbiology and Society" 📃Abstract submission is now open www.syms.ch
Got myself an early Christmas present 😇cool and cozy socks from @contamclub.bsky.social 🥰
Yay! The next batch of plates for beta testers is leaving the Kuemmerli Lab! 😃
Are you studying #polymicrobial interactions? #Bacteriophages? Competition/Cooperation of two or more species? Use my new standardized device for your experiments. If you are interested in testing the plate in your lab send me a message for more info: lukas.schwyter@uzh.ch
You are up to date.
