Every media organisation in the country has been running editorials about the danger of new media, changing rules for question time -- all too early, before investigations into the alleged attacker and before authorities even alleged a motive.

The Israel lobby is pushing "a culture war about writers festivals...taking place under the auspices of a commission established in response to Australia's worst terror attack." Yet as Scott & Os note, this has "absolutely nothing to do with Bondi, or any other instances of violent anti-Semitism."

In Jo Puccini's exit from the ABC, Hugh Marks has not lost a head of investigations, but a formidable advocate for journalists who defined the culture at ABC News.

lamestream.com.auWhy Jo Puccini’s Exit Could Change the Future of ABC NewsWhen the exit of Jo Puccini from the ABC was announced on Thursday afternoon, in sections of the ABC it felt like a funeral. It was not just the exit of a colleague, but for some it was the death of a culture that has defined investigative journalism at the ABC for over a decade. For the last few weeks, as stories about _Four Corners_ continued to emerge in the press, some had speculated and gossiped that Puccini could go. That speculation only grew when senior sources at the ABC briefed against Puccini in _The Australian_ , saying she was “in the firing line”. Everyone knew she was the last senior editorial leader clinging on, after what has become a clear-out of an entire generation of senior ABC News bosses. But many refused to even say the words aloud, ‘Could Jo go?’. To those outside the ABC, Puccini may not appear to be the most significant head to roll. Officially, she had been the Head of Investigations and Current Affairs for four short years, overseeing the ABC’s most important journalism at _Four Corners_ , _7.30_ , _Background Briefing_ and the Investigative Reporting Team. But to those inside the ABC, Puccini represented far more than a job title. ### This post is for subscribers only Become a member to get access to all content Subscribe now

This is the grimmest day for the ABC in a long time, both News and Entertainment. Hugh Marks should be in the dock for both situations, but because he has done exactly as the rest of the media wanted, he won’t get dinged at all. Shameful.

Buried at the very bottom of the ABC story on the apology to Gina is HUGH MARKS saying he’s going to CHANGE what the ABC can and can’t publish. He’s going to tear up decades of precedent so that a joke like this can never be said on ABC TV again. This is total vandalism. It should be a scandal.

This was an revealing moment at the RC — Students for Palestine organiser Yasmine Johnson was questioned closely by Commissioner Bell about whether her family were pro-Israel. Haven’t seen much of that scrutiny for other “lived experience” witnesses

In an interview with Lamestream, she explains why she took part and what the process ...

This is a Federal Government envoy. She’s being paid to prepare evidence, making the case against our public broadcasters integrity. Again and again when questioned, she just concede “oh, no, I don’t actually have evidence of that”.

Is any news org going to report how Segal’s testimony is contradictory nonsense and she’s having to concede points from her statement? Or is everyone just going to sane-wash this anti-journalistic nonsense?

Let alone, how is the GUARDIAN just not talking about how she’s unable to maintain her premises? She basically had to just admit her main ‘solution’ in her statement, wouldn’t maintain the ABC’s independence?

podcasts.apple.comHow Journalism’s Race Problem Helps One Nation. Plus, Craig Foster on Politics and the World CupPodcast Episode · Lamestream · 21 June · 1hr

The big brains of Australian media on racial pogroms in Northern Ireland. ‘He’s coming up to the first hurdle… he’ll want to have a good start, it’s the complexity of race politics after this… can he clear it?’

Nine newspapers, always so desperate to not call anything racism. There were white supremacists organisers, urging people onto the streets to “protect the future of white youth” — as reported by WIRED. But the Nine Newspapers: it wasn’t racist! Brilliant stuff, fellas.

What is with Guardian Australia on this story? “Let’s interview each other at the same time.” “How do you feel about the fact that they hired Grace Tame after all of that?” 2 stories, 2000 words and the 'more context' brigade can't find the space to tell their readers the actual exchange.

I don't really need to keep talking about Charlie Pickering, I don't care at this stage. But it is so weird for a publication that's supposed to be about depth and context and nuance to spend all these words *not* elucidating the exchange? Those dumb morons on social media just don't understand!

ABC comms must be so happy with Guardian Australia. Found “himself subjected to a barrage of questions”, “Pickering did a good job” “clipped up” Pickering in the actual full clip: “let’s interview eachother at the same time.” Gee. What an ambush, how unfortunate to find himself in that situation.

Charlie Pickering gave the ABC's most unhinged critics, who want to abolish the ABC, exactly the ammunition they wanted. Staff cannot understand why he did it.

lamestream.com.auCharlie Pickering’s attack on Grace Tame is a test for the ABC__Tickets to our live shows featuring guests like Ben Lee, Tony Armstrong, Grace Tame, and more are__ on sale now__.__ Charlie Pickering doesn’t owe the ABC everything, but he does owe it _a lot_. His first regular media gig was as host of Triple J’s _Drive_ program back in 2001, a position he landed after being invited by Wil Anderson to do guest spots on _Breakfast_. After stints in commercial media, including on the Comedy Channel and Channel V, as well as co-hosting _The Project_ for five years, he returned to the ABC to host _The Weekly_ , a satirical news program that has run for the past 11 years. As well as that, he co-hosted another ABC TV program _Tomorrow Tonight_ , hosted ABC Melbourne’s _Breakfast_ show on Fridays in 2023, took over hosting Richard Glover’s _Thank God It’s Friday_ show __ on ABC Sydney, and just last month was announced as the new host of _Drive_ on ABC Melbourne. The public broadcaster has showered him with gigs, including his continued hosting of the ABC’s last remaining satirical news show, which has outlasted Shaun Micallef’s _Mad As Hell_ and Tom Ballard’s _Tonightly_. He’s in an extremely rare, lucky and privileged position. That is why his decision to publicly criticise the broadcaster for working with former Australian of the Year Grace Tame – a decision that has provided the ABC’s powerful enemies with fresh ammunition to use against the broadcaster – has left so many of his colleagues bewildered and disdainful. ### This post is for subscribers only Become a member to get access to all content Subscribe now

In this week's column, the ABC report 8 million Australians are reliant on income support but the report's author isn't so sure, one newspaper reports that Chinese Australians live along the 'Yum Cha line' and The Daily Aus claim to advise public broadcasters.

lamestream.com.auCasual racism in The Age, We Tested The Daily Aus' PR claims, and the ABC Might Re-Write a Headline After we Publish This.### The ABC says 8 Million Australians are reliant on income support!? The ABC has reported that a shocking number of people are “reliant” on income support – but after speaking to _Lamestream,_ the author of the study, is distancing himself from the central claim of the ABC’s story. “The number of people accessing income support payments has risen by 2 million, with more Australians unable to work due to deteriorating mental and physical health,” read the ABC News story this week. The reported 8.3 million people would be an enormous number of Australians unable to work. There’s just shy of 15 million employed people in the whole of Australia, so once you take out children, the elderly – where are all these unproductive souls fitting into Australia’s population? Unemployment and welfare activist Tom Studans was the first to spot the problem: the entire story was based on a study that included sick leave that all workers are entitled to as a form of “income support” – fully 7.5 million of the 8.3 million people this study is talking about. That’s right, the vast majority of people the ABC called “reliant on income support” and “unable to work”, are actually gainfully employed and took some sick days. ### This post is for subscribers only Become a member to get access to all content Subscribe now

So bizarre to me the ABC is taking attack drops from the govt, with no balancing statements — and not even attributing the ‘senior sources’ to the govt or Labor or treasury. This is News Corp’s MO, not the ABCs.
