That ADHD feeling when you know you have something important AND urgent to do, but you just can't bring yourself to do it.

Sometimes things happen and you find out that no matter how much you thought you fit in, you just don't. I'd love to say it is something that I can shrug off, but this one hurts. Worst part was that I had been having an excellent night otherwise.

We are not fighting over policy or political party. We are fighting over whether we are going to be a civilization rooted in empathy and kindness—or cruelty and rage. Choose your side.

Dear Justice Kavanaugh: it doesn't matter if it's going to be "messy". Your job is to interpret law, not policy. Do your damn job.

I have no problem with virtue signaling. Hate has been given a megaphone and they have no problem amplifying those voices. There should be no shame in amplifying ours.

Some Louisville coffee shops insist that ICE be served with a smile. Others, like Safai at Logan Street Market have whistles behind the bar. Also at the alcohol bar at the market too. Caffeinate accordingly.

Blumenthal: "I'm a no vote on that spending bill unless there are conditions that require ICE to go to a judge, to get a warrant, as well as other kinds of constraints -- the use of masks, the non-identification, the unmarked cars. These secret police, totalitarian tactics need to be stopped."

Dear politicians, if you're not running on a platform of "we will undo all of this chaos" this election season, I will do everything I can to ensure you are primaried.

Trump defends the ICE agent who shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis. Video footage does not support Trump's claims.

I don't want to hear a damn thing about what anyone said about Charlie Kirk. This is vile coming from anyone, let alone the supposed leader of a country.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Q: A number of Republicans have denounced your statement on Rob Reiner. Do you stand by it? TRUMP: Well, I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned.

📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms). It’s also concerning. 1/

PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.

it's so funny to see America's health insurance companies be like "look. If there's one thing we love it's denying you care. but we ran the numbers - and we cannot BELIEVE we're saying this - and it's cheaper for us to just pay for the vaccines than deal with you going to the ER."

Dr. Vin Gupta@vinguptamd.bsky.social

Regardless of the disgraceful nonsense we will likely hear from this administration in the coming days on vaccine “recommendations,” Americas healthcare insurers issued a joint statement tonight saying coverage for Covid and flu shots will remain unchanged from prior years. Speaks for itself.

The punch line. Seriously. 🤣

Orkney Library & Archive@orkneylibrary.bsky.social

It's seven years since we posted on Twitter about how kids kept coming into the library asking if we had any books about FORTNITE. We didn't back then, and we'd never heard of it so we tried asking what it was.

As a Xennial, this is a sobering thought. Folks in the thread point out Heroin having a similar effect. Certainly something for later when I have time to think about this more.

This post is unavailable.

Not sure who needs to hear this other than some coworkers, but... Not every announcement in Slack needs "@here" and "@channel" should never be used, ever.

starting to think we should give "strange women lying in ponds distributing swords" a chance as a basis for our system of government

Boss move: Coworker just said that he was going to miss the upcoming meeting, but that we should admit his AI notetaker so he can review the transcript/notes. Ain't gonna lie. I think I've finally found my favorite use case for AI 🤣. Just can't wait for the first meeting with only AI notetakers.

If you were too young in 2003 here is what Bush told the American people: 1) The Iraq War won’t cost a lot of money 3) We won’t need a lot of troops 4) We’ll bring peace and freedom to Iraq 5) We’ll find WMDs 6) We’ll be welcomed as liberators 7) It will be easy 8) It won’t take long All lies.

For some reason Twilio really wants me to link my customers' SendGrid accounts to my Twilio user account, but doesn't provide a way to link _multiple_ SendGrid accounts. I have access to the customer's Twilio account, but I can't get to their SendGrid account now.

Operationalizing Solid Queue in a Capistrano deployment strategy has not been fun. There are no migrations to create the database tables (only db:schema:load:queue). When Cap does a db:migrate, it wipes out db/queue_schema.rb before we have a chance to load the schema.

🧵 NY-17 Rep. Mike Lawler had a local social worker physically dragged out of his town hall Sunday night. Emily Feiner was singled out by private security, lifted out of her seat, as the crowd chanted “let her stay” and “shame, shame.” She’s a constituent. Not a threat. Fascism again.

Trump: "Tomorrow, tariffs -- 25 percent on Canada and 25 percent on Mexico. And that'll start."

This thread, but this in particular. It's easier to alienate, hate, whatever a group when we make jokes about them.

Jason P. Steed@profsteed.bsky.social

7. A racist joke sends a message to the in-group that racism is acceptable. (If you don't find it acceptable, you're in the out-group.) The racist joke teller might say "just joking" -- but this is a defense to the out-group. He doesn't have to say this to the in-group.
