Probably unrelated to the fact the HBO has the rights to that four hour documentary about him.

Assuming Counterpoint is included in the Catapult news, that means that 20% of this year's National Book Awards longlist for fiction was published by imprints that will no longer exist in their current form by the time of awards night.

By the time I was 21, I’d left behind a lot things I’d supported when I was 11.

Michael Fusella supported President Trump for nearly a decade. But as the Iran war drags on and the cost of living continues to climb, the 21-year-old Republican said he feels betrayed by a president who said he’d end overseas conflicts and lower prices.

obviously many more important takeaways from the French approach to protest, but much respect to the absolute varsity level Whimsy of throwing a whole ass piano at the cops

One of my top Taylor novels, without a doubt.

From the archive for the #1949Club, my thoughts A WREATH OF ROSES by Elizabeth Taylor. On darkest novels, it's a brilliant exploration of fear, loneliness, mortality and lies. As ever with Taylor, the relationships are beautifully observed. 💙📚 jacquiwine.wordpress.com/2020/04/14/a...

AI, the kind the companies want normal people to use in their everyday lives, was invented by bad dorks who can't think about or make or do anything fun or cool or social, and they keep trying to sell it to us as a tool to outsource the doing of cool fun social things as if that's appealing.

Elizabeth Taylor fans: I'm teaching the story "The Blush" and I've inadvertently discovered that there are blogs and other sites that are misreading a key element of the story. So, if you have the NYRB collection, or her collected stories, help me out with something…

Can you read or reread this (very short and very good) story and back me up on a detail that seems to be accepted online as the author's implication, but that I think is a bad inference/assumption?? Seriously if you have a minute, read it and let me know, and I'll explain the issue.

Ralph J. Gleason, who got to know John Coltrane on the way up, wrote the liner notes for ‘Coltrane’s Sound’ on Atlantic Records. A memorable first few paragraphs here.

You could tell me this is a music video for a new wave band that went #1 in a half-dozen countries in 1982 and I’d be searching for their Wikipedia page before it ended.

Saw these old Kwik Fit and Do-It-All commercials on You Tube yesterday. An annoyingly catchy tunes sung by jolly workmen. Alas Smith & Jones did an excellent spoof of these types of commercials and even got Daniel Peacock from the Do-It-All ad! Chef's kiss!

This article is fascinating! What should, on paper, be the truest possible way to be faithful to the original intent fails to account for technical limitations, now absent, that the original was designed to incorporate and accommodate.

The Disney renaissance movies used to look different. They were planned to be printed on 35 mm film -- that's how they were first released. Modern editions skip that last step in the process. It was a highly developed, overlooked craft, as we explore: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/disneys-fi...

Here’s the 1965 Grade 12 reading list for Mater Christi HS (now St John’s Prep) in Astoria, Queens. It’s fascinating to think of the literary “canon” and its mutations/permutations over time…

Caroline Blackwood deserves so much more attention. And not just because her parents were an Earl and a Guinness heiress, and her husbands were painter Lucian Freud, composer Israel Citkowitz, and poet Robert Lowell. She also wrote some goddamn great books.
