I don't talk about this much, but my extended family suffered from a pretty heinous crime that would be precisely in the wheelhouse of these kinds of assholes, and I'm thankful that it hasn't appeared on these fun-loving ghouls profit radar thus far.

why do they do this. why do the true crime shows have so much confetti

"Stay sexy and don't get murdered!" Cool cool. I'll buy the t-shirts for my relatives with decades of nightmares, mental health spirals, and fractures between the survivors that will never heal.

One thing I think dudes struggle with. Professional female athletes will absolutely *wreck* you. That does not mean they’re similar to male athletes in their sports (in most sports). It just means you don’t really understand how vast the difference is between a professional athlete and a mortal.

Kind of incredible how many dudes out there take it as established fact that the 180 WNBA players have much less athletic and basketball skills than a random male high school player, with 540,000 players nationwide.

The best way of honoring Lindsey Graham's legacy is to try to live by his example. I'm going to give him the same honor, sympathy, and respect on his passing that he gave to those schoolkids in Iran on theirs.

In a different context, I would feel bad for conservatives, who crave social connection and high-trust community but are incapable of it because they value dominance and hierarchy more. Their day to day life is a crab bucket, and their solution to everything is more crab bucket. Sad, and stupid.

I'm a concerned climate expert who helps shape policy, and that's why I'm here yet again to reiterate something I've been saying for years: your nannas must die, alone, in a sweltering pied a terre.

No, you see, my generation's worst qualities are caused by structural forces that began before we were born or had agency, and are beyond any of our individual control. Your generation's are due to your terrible life choices and awful ethics, a direct reflection of every single person's character.

This is why you gotta put out traps at the first sign of an infestation: "HODL" scrawled on the urinal partition, diamond hand graffiti, the worst techno you've ever heard. This restaurant is probably red-tagged now, and they're gonna have to tent it, 'cuz they're in the walls now.

i wanted to like amadeus, but for all of salieri's talking, he never evinces a theory for producing better-behaved mozarts

An excruciating set of replies to this relatively straightforward point about empathy and the social contract. Having a reason for doing something and acting rational are not necessarily the same thing, and understanding people who are struggling doesn't mean justifying their actions.

There was a long-running effort to correctly identify mental illness and drug addiction as medical conditions rather than moral failures. But now there's a real bizarre effort among the NPIC and in left-wing spaces to say these are rational people making rational choices. I don't get it!

I feel like the perniciousness of post-Reaganism and how it's crept into ostensibly liberal spaces is the kind of discourse about mental illness and unhoused people. We traded abuse by institutions with individualistic/wholesale neglect that ends up being everyone's problem, and those are the poles.

Various people have been trying to get me to override my snap judgement that this shit sucks ass for 30 years now. It's fine to like cheese, and I agree everyone should work a service job to develop critical empathy skills, but I just can't fuck with these cornball dorks.

Wake up, kids. This month in the Alt Rock Department at @pastemagazine.bsky.social I wrote about the New Radicals and the importance of having a shitty job, if only to know how far you can test the limits of the world.
