#Booksky Spooktacular 2026 Day 26: Southern Gothic horror the way only @tkingfisher.com can do it? That’s what’s on the menu in A House with Good Bones. Also insects, vultures, and teeth! Kingfisher has that tricky skill of making you laugh and creeping you out in quick succession, which I love.

In Vanishing Point (1971), the prototypical speed vector manifests through Kowalski's Dodge Challenger. Stripped of a dyadic pursuer dynamic, the car becomes a high-velocity projectile on an urgent A-to-B highway trajectory driven solely by a tight deadline and pure speed.

Stepped out of the restaurant with two friends, and a woman yells at us. HER: Hey! What band are you in? US: Eh? HER: What’s the name of your band? KEVIN: We’re not in a band? HER: You’re not? ME: We’re just weirdos. And then she began singing “Creep” at us.

It's so much fun sharing our adoration of @tkingfisher.com with her fans. Yeah we sell her books, but we voraciously READ her books too. She spans so many genres from YA to Fantasy to Horror to Romance. One of the reasons we love selling her books is because there is something for everyone.

Just a periodic, friendly reminder that we could actually avoid all this by not caring who’s attracted to, who’s having sex with who, who’s marrying who, let alone believing any of it should matter in public policy. We could just all mind our own business and all have rights. ✨

A rogue spy who bugs foreign embassies and then uses those sensitive recordings as a subtly evolving soundbed on which to summon a richly interwoven sonic tapestry of granularized folk melodies and achingly languorous feedback drones as an elegy for our once better collective aspirations.

lukewarm take: covers of songs that we grew up listening to and kind of idolizing are never going to be as good as covers of songs we're a tiny bit making fun of and thus feel free to do something actually genuinely new to
