Geoffrey Chaucer (Le Vostre GC): Servaunt of the Kynge. Blogger. Wryter of verse. Wearer of litel woolen hatte. Deputy Forestere of North Petherton. He/hym/hys.
My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.
I've mentioned before I've updated my contracts to make sure everything in the production of my books is done by humans and not "AI"; if you're wondering what such a thing looks like, here's a clause covering that from a recent contract.
I’m more upset than necessary about the Marissa Mayer AI thing. I could literally point at -*any random little girl* and say, I sense that she’s empathetic! Creative! and loves animals! And win the lottery. What kind of person would tell this story out loud??
i know the trot of my tone here seems slightly flippant because thats just the nature of posting, but this makes me deeply, deeply sad. like physically ill. i cannot believe there are people out there doing this. i cannot imagination seeing reflection on your own child as a task to streamline
ive talked on how i wont engage with writers who use ai, i wont eat at a restaurant with an ai menu, i wont have anything to do with it. but what this post illustrates is regardless of how OTHERS react, ultimately the worst part about using ai is that you are punishing YOURSELF and dont even know it
Honestly several things are depressing about ai but the two that stand out are the eagerness of people to outsource thought because cognitive effort is uncomfortable, and the casualness with which people use the shiny, easy thing knowing it's bad for climate change

Wher ys the horse and the rydere?
Wher ys the horne that was blowinge?
Wher ys the brighte cuppe, the friendes gift?
Wher yn the worlde ys Carmen Sandiego?
There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere*
Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines
As a species we decided, “we will survive”
Let’s do that some more
Mass Effect will lyve on as long as one, just one person yn the course of their daye doth saye to themselves "okay Ich am goinge to take the Renegade choyce heere"
A queer retelling of Hamlet set at a secretive magical university? Don't mind if I do. This will fit nicely into my current dark academia hyperfixation.
Has anyone else read THOUGHTS BE BLOODY yet? What did you think?
It's a grim moment when "scam to get investment cash" is actually the best case scenario, as the alternative is bio-engineered murder dogs. This is the company that stuck a couple of genes into a wolf and claimed (/were reported to have claimed) to have recreated the prehistoric dire wolf
*NEW* Colossal Biosciences’ Ben Lamm and Anduril’s Palmer Luckey team up on a new startup to genetically engineer war dogs for the military. Warhound comes out of stealth at $1.2B valuation

All art, even the moost abstract written art, ys direct intervencioun ynto the material worlde by a being wyth a brayne pumped full of oxygenated bloode, heir to the errours and miracles of yeares we kan not even ymagine. Machynes have materialitye too but confuse not the glove wyth the human hande.
Artists don't need to be miserable, depressed people to be great. That is a toxic myth. But art does need to be miserable and painful and scary at points to be good. There's no shortcut.

the idea phase is the easiest and least valuable part of professional creativity.
read the first draft of the first Star Wars if you doubt me
Great art is made in the grinding, often miserable collision between the ethereal substance of an idea and the mud and blood and friction of reality
