I once acidentally broke and shattered the glass cover of a wall clock at an airbnb i stayed at. I dont think anything came from it since it was probably a dollar store trinket but the fear i had gave me nightmares.

im in the deadlock queue cycle, i need to cure it with by playing a forgotten falcom game or something

it is very jarring to deal with "am i gonna get laid off" for the last few years at a game dev job to like "am i going to enjoy working in this industry anymore"

Need to market translations now or else it's a 50/50 if a random patch that comes out is human made or not, aka Schrodinger's Translation

Proud to announce that we're working on an English patch for Takara's "Schrödinger no neko" on PS1! A team effort with @cadensia.eurosky.social and @superretropolygons.bsky.social No release date yet, stay tuned for updates, and enjoy the trailer for now! ✨ youtu.be/HOoSvz7-oIs #FanTranslation #PS1

Playing monsters and memories early access and it is filled with chill everquest gamers in their 50s. Talking like theyre from AOL in the 90s. Like internet time travel

Also nothing beats a corpse run where the person coming to rescue you with an invisibility spell also suddenly needs rescung

tried out Monsters and Memories this morning. Although it is an indie Everquest I was not expecting the game to be the most atmospheric and immersive experiences in awhile. music and soundscape is absolutely breathtaking.

I love deadlocks art and design but mobas might be the best and worst genre. Online games need go back to 24/7 2fort servers equivalent

The pain points of random battles are less about the random battles themselves and moreso ps1 rpgs shifting away from exploration/survival and expecting you to fight trivial battles inbetween solving a puzzle that requires looking at the dungeon layout for more than 5 sec-*random battle flash*-

Game design meme for me and maybe three other people on this site.

I dont think the average gen x annoyed gamer channel is completely lying when they say "random battles are annoying" as an end user experience data point but most design problems are an enigma of scaffolding than any one mechanic.

Touch encounters are usually worse because they are very hard to do right. If ambushing is too important than the whole game revolves around character hitbox tag than the battles themselves. If they are easy to avoid than that can lead to hard boss fights OR it wont matter and its all pointless

In dragon quest 1 every battle costs you something youll eventually have to turn back, but the question is when? and can you squeeze out just enough exp before going back? A lot of RPGs just don't actually do this lol and theres sometimes a disconnect when people blame them

i think i might boycott youtube at some point, not for any ethical reasoning but i think this might be bad for the brain yo

FF7 scenarios with pre-rendered backgrounds were always a mystery to me during childhood; but even to this day it's still something that amazes me. Now you can inspect every single Final Fantasy VII stage, including the 3D path + variations. #FF7 #FinalFantasy #FFVII #PS1 #PSX #RetroGame

Being in mid 30s is just "Yea um there was thing called... i forget what it was called. Which reminds me of... forget what that was called" In every networking convo

Story about not art: I know a lot of people are on the "games not art" weirdo train, but I met a guy once who claimed games can't be art because level design is inherently manipulative. The emotional reactions couldn't be "authentic" because you're led to them.

Doing priest job quest in ragnarok online and the quiz is like "thou shalt not drag monsters over to power level your friends" Im like WHAT im feeling like larry david here, mobbing is a very pious thing to do!!!

What if in order to save on internet data we just compressed images as they get older. Youll see an old facebook photo from 2010 and it'll be deep fried to hell.

Youtube lately either giving me very direct life advice or y2k dnb music with Link smoking a blunt on a ps1 cover thumbnail. No inbetween

I dont like that the oot remake looks so washed out, like it looks so grey in places. There's a lot you can extract with the og dark style and some clothing clearly has color to them. Maybe theyll change that in the next remake in 10 years

Im not sure if its just using the botw engine or what but i noticed a lot of fog or god rays tends to bring that out. Like maybe theyre relying on the LUTs too much that it just eyedrops the rolling fog.

Ive been playing RS1 on the snes and it's not too bad with a primer The battle to exploration ratio is horrendous tho. Go through a whole dungeon full of easy encounters where your 6 party commands take up the entire combat time, then you find out you cant kill the boss and then have to leave

this 100%, the different races were cool. going to taverns get quests were cool; they have this cool world, characters live in, RS3/Saga 1 especially. my gripe is you only find out thru trial and error/how the game should be played - it'd be cool if the game was more accommodating with this failure.

I actually dont mind the dead ends and quests ending off screen if you trigger certain things etc. But venturing to find out information or explore is just 🫠

is johnny cash the ikaruga of country music or is ikaruga the johnny cash of shmups find out in this video

this movie has no chill, every time I think it's gonna calm down it just goes ham. EVERY SCENE IS JUST LIKE THIS, it's amazing

Big Thinker Game Designer: The Player is this omnipresent being that cannot be negotiated with. They can do whatever they want as long as they don't hurt me.

Watched Wolf Children, i feel like how it ends was complete mercy from the director though when you think about it: it makes Jin Roh look like a happy ending.

I want to make my game have only one achivement: beat the game. Because that truly is an achivement but i know id be put to the cross by some completionist goblins

Watched Summer Wars on a whim and it rules. It's a retelling of digimon the movie but without the IP and being awkwardly broken up by short films. Surprised how well the portrayal of technology works in storytelling. It is very abstracted but understands social media on a deep level... in 2009
