Oh hey look at something I wrote 👀 Ty to a bunch of great colleagues that I'm able to share this with you all 😍

Do YOU ever wonder about what you should charge for your game when it's not in USD? Regional pricing is often overlooked and can have a sizable impact on the returns you might be looking for. bit.ly/3FdEHJ7 🧵 Bonus thread below! 🧵 #gamedev #indiedev #steam

it's 2035, AI has revolutionized the world, made everything 10x more expensive, kept wages low, corporations 50x richer but still not profitable because it's growing technology...🤩

Remembering how pundits call for the end of the console generation every time and be wrong. Well, they might be right this time around and it'll be entirely because of AI.

The pendulum swings back and forth, PS was overzealous and went way too risk-on with their live-service. The overcommitment didn't pay off, now they are in super risk-averse mode even though this is suppose to be the spiritual successor to Metal Gear and not Death Stranding again.

You know Sony is done with any goodwill when they don't even want a Kojima game anymore.

The PC I bought last november would've cost me 43% more if I bought the same PC today 💀

Poe@signwave.bsky.social

I'm glad I got my new PC last year because I'm going to be sticking with this thing for the next 10 years.

Ultimately I think Sony is following the market, and the market is older, less willing to go to a store and buy a disc, and more willing to just buy new. And the younger generations that run counter to that are not filling in the blank spaces. The trends are what suck here.

If you're curious what a non-preservationist gaming ecosystem looks like, you can look at the mobile stores, where most of the shit you remember does not exist in any form anymore.

Poe reposted

piracy is the only extant form of media preservation that exists in games right now, you might find it morally reprehensible but there is literally no other institution that will keep games alive in 25, 50 years' time

This is shocking. I always thought console games would go the route of movies where streaming is the norm but the niche physical media enthusiasts can still thrive. Instead, they are going the way of music. Sad day indeed.

NEW: Sony to end production of discs for all new PlayStation games (first and third party) as of January 2028 Full news and analysis at the link: www.gamefile.news/p/sony-drops...

A lot of chatter about how PlayStation is doing so much with Rockstar for GTA6, stuff that they don't do for their first party titles, etc. GTA5 is literally the 2nd best selling game of all time, and GTA6 will eclipse the sales of any of Sony's PS5 first party titles easily.

Steam Machine is good, and not cheap but certainly isn't an Xbox competitor with those prices. I was so tempted since it's such a cool machine but those prices 😨

Poe@signwave.bsky.social

- Steam machine will be good, albeit not cheap, kinda competes with Xbox atp - Steam Frame good too, VR not going mainstream tho - Half Life 3 (is real I believe), will launch with new Steam hardware - Games transmedia continues strong, Mario Galaxy movie outperforms

I've waited so long for RetroSpace, it's Space Disco Bioshock 🕺🪩 They just released a demo today! I finished the demo and it lived up to what I had hoped for, can't wait for the full release on June 11. Give it a try yourself if this interests you. store.steampowered.com/app/2067820/...

I really do like the Personalized Calendar Steam just added, I never used the popular upcoming list to begin with and this calendar just seemed much more useful for me.

There's certainly an interesting convo regarding Xbox's renewed "case by case" console exclusivity and its calculus, but I haven't heard anyone talk about how none of these decisions changed Game Pass day one on these titles. I mean isn't that part of the original math why they released on the PS5?

longer development time/cost, live service trend chase higher cost of entry, expensive console, games are factors as well = less game output the need to innovate, either create a must buy game or lower costs and produce more good games each year is needed here. all of which are hard to accomplish.

NEW: Sony's been selling millions fewer first-party PlayStation games (developed or published) almost every year since 2020 On the eve of the next State of Play, it's clear Sony could use more hits Growth in third-party game sales does not appear to be to blame www.gamefile.news/p/playstatio...

Hope Steam will actually continue to update the conversion values with updated datasets this time. Don't leave people hanging again.

There is a massive disconnect between the indie games community and the technoloy industry at large, Paul - the disconnect being that indies try to make games and a large part of the technology sector makes disposable startups to flip as much VC money as possible at the expense of everything.

Microsoft's next quarterly report: "we've seen an uptick in Copilot installs, stonks up" 📈

Shinobi602@shinobi602.bsky.social

Gaming Copilot coming to Xbox consoles later this year: "[...]we will bring Gaming Copilot to the current-generation consoles, and we will continue to bring it to more services that players are playing", said Manager for Gaming AI at Xbox Sonali Yadav ➡️ www.gamesradar.com/games/xbox-j...

Haven't seen this widely discussed, but PlayStation was initially "forced" to do PC porting because their games were taking too long and costing too much compared to its console game sales. Now that they are scaling PC ports back, it doesn't seem like it has solved that previous problem.

Maybe what this means is in the future we will see games made either faster, cheaper, reduced scope or some combination so that it doesn't need as many copies sold on the PS console to make back a return. Otherwise, they'll continue to be financially strained in their first party production.

Seems like a logical step to make after gathering more than five years worth of data on porting games to PC. I do hope that Sony won't abandon Nixxes since they were acquired for their PC porting abilities. They can do work in other aspects for the PS Studios while between the few PC ports planned.

5. RACCOIN: Coin Pusher Roguelike: Name says it all. It's pure nostalgia dopamine for me, but without actually needing to spend any real life money and it's more fun! Also, can you believe it's the same publisher for Balatro, how do they keep finding these games! #SteamNextFest
