I have a small idea what I'm doing. I'm working on a prison abolition game that engages people deeply in the policy choices that have created mass incarceration in the U.S. Emphasis on choices because there are other ways. https://silver-guillotine.itch.io
Hello to all my new followers! I'm Sean (he/him), speak English and Spanish, and I'm learning #indiegamedev in my free time to try to change minds and create a better world through #prisonabolition.
I will mix game updates with news, my blog posts, and examples of successful reform. Advice welcome.
Progress is progress. I've got an itch page up for the game (silver-guillotine.itch.io/abolition-game) and some great background art commissioned from Smeet (vgen.co/SmeetPXL). I also have a new devlog there about what is abolition to me (silver-guillotine.itch.io/abolition-ga...)
I have just published a piece that is very important to me. It's about why so many "progressives" and people on "the left" are lying to us right now about crime, safety, and repression, and what we should be doing instead. equalityalec.substack.com/p/why-is-eve...
Early this year, I visited Ingram, a TX town of ~1,900, to check out a tip.
The area was starting to recover from its worst flood in a century.
But as Latino workers drove to jobsites to help rebuild, the tipster said, a cop in a black Dodge Charger kept stopping them ... 🧵
While families struggle through an affordability crisis, the U.S. continues to spend $445 billion on mass incarceration each year.
That's a lot of money that could be spent on caring for communities instead of criminalizing them.
As I've dug into this story, I've realized Alpha is just part of a larger terminally online ecosystem that has abandoned public schooling as something worth preserving. That in my view is the big story here, Alpha may live or die, but the Silicon Valley intellectual ecosystem will endure.
he almost entirely rejects the premise of politics: that through communication and rhetoric we can move publics to act collectively in particular ways.
A Florida man was found dead in his home during a welfare check in July 2022. Weeks later, one of the officers who discovered his body moved into the home and spent years impersonating him, according to investigators.
Ramaswamy has produced an attack ad weaponizing the rape of his opponent, Amy Acton, when she was 12 years old. It features Acton’s mother, who abandoned Acton after she was raped by her step-father, fleeing the state with her husband.
Here is the corporate money helping fund that ad.
This is US industrial policy and has been for decades. Big government is influencing the market through incarceration and military spending. This is a direction that has already and will continue to lead to fascism and death for many
ICE is reportedly fast-tracking an $100 million program designed to expand its domestic surveillance capabilities in dozens of cities. 142 intelligence agents will be placed in at least two dozen cities throughout the country to coordinate with nearby ICE offices and Washington D.C..
When you introduce policies and programs that are intentionally exclusionary they have economic impacts ... because those excluded are also economic engines
Last year, Trump and 98% of elected GOP enacted the biggest Medicaid cuts in history, bigger even than Reagan's Medicaid cuts.
By 2034, 7.5 million people will lose their Medicaid because of the cuts.
Clinics are already closing and hospitals are already cutting services, citing OBBBA as a reason.
$1,100 sneakers are unethical while children are hungry and their schools are underfunded in this country. Being confronted with the results of our societal priorities is sad and scary and we should all do more to change them. Especially the wealthy who have more power and influence
many centrists are as disdainful of science as MAGA these days. virtually every study on the topic, and there have been many, show that youth programs reduce crime. it's a settled question. this is no different from claiming vaccines are a hoax.
Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.
I wrote about Christa Pike, and the urgency of our mandate to dismantle the prison-industrial complex and grow the world we need.
Let's push ourselves to imagine and build the life-affirming vision that abolishes death penalties of all kinds.

"The U.S. eugenics movement shaped sterilization campaigns and immigration laws. ... [F]orced sterilization is 'not a relic of our distant past.' California, a trailblazer in the eugenics movement, forcibly sterilized 150 incarcerated women between 2006 and 2010."
ICE is arresting a record number of pregnant women and teenagers who cannot access the medical care they need, according to the reporting. At the same time, the agency appears to have lost count of how many people had miscarriages after October 2025.
"There is no question that the number of police killings of civilians in the U.S. – who are disproportionately Black and other people of color – are the result of policies and practices that enable and even encourage police violence. ... American police kill civilians at incredibly high rates[.]"
"ICE is arresting a record number of pregnant women and teenagers who cannot access the medical care they need ... [ICE] appears to have lost count of how many people had miscarriages after October 2025."
“Over hundreds of years, eugenics transformed into policy, practice & law, as illustrated by today’s immigration quotas, surveillance systems, detention centers & instances of modern-day slavery.”
The experiences of pregnant women in ICE detention show that eugenics remains, Edith Romero reports.
NEW: Footage from Thursdays shooting shows an ICE agent in a construction vest brandishing a rifle. His name is Brenden Cuni.
Federal judges have found multiple arrests involving Cuni unlawful. He has been accused of repeatedly Tasing a handcuffed man and tackling a pregnant woman in Minneapolis.
"ICE has detained more than 8,750 kids since Trump retook office. ... [A] baby and two other young children were held without their mother for around 10 days. No one in their family could locate them. The family later learned the children were kept in a hotel room before they were [deported]."
Children detained for long stretches are usually sent to Dilley. But the Trump administration has also held children and families for shorter stints in locations that lawyers say are “black boxes,” where families and lawyers cannot find them. www.themarshallproject.org/2026/10/08/i...
The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
Folks, I'm happy to announce my next game will use up all water, destroy humanity in a global blaze, & lose $8 billion weekly. IPO starts at a 20 gazillion euros valuation based on me counting the amount of zeroes wrong. Upon checking the prototype I realized bigger number is better. Supersentience.
Police were responsible for nearly one in three homicides in Vallejo, California in 2012. They are also responsible for a large proportion of homicides by strangers across the US.
This case shows the people of Vallejo may have been safer with a complete defunding, before that was a common idea
This is most policy debate:
"The masses don't realize what we're doing is actually good for them. That's why we need to undermine democratic modes of participation even more to bring about what the wealthy want."
BLANCHE: AI has a lot of benefits. The fact that AI is able to understand what you want, where you want to shop -- you don't know it, but you actually benefit from that
CAMPOS DUFFY: I don't want that!
BLANCHE: I know you think you don't, but it's not all bad
CD: I don't want my govt spying on me
"Several new women's prisons are being built despite a growing chorus of voices arguing that prisons only inflict more harm on women who have already endured abuse and trauma. ... Instead of sentencing reform or much-needed mental and medical services, legislators chose to build a new prison."

"The story is about how the Terrible Things, which usually happen to the people who deserve Terrible Things, somehow happened to one of the people who do not deserve Terrible Things, according to one of the sorts of people who get to decide which people deserve what."

Reading this good piece today:
"Today, neoclassical textbooks continue to wax about the market production of ‘stuff’ (i.e. ‘widgets’). But in the mean time, American capitalists have offshored their factories, leaving the dirty work of making things to others.
"One video [of the US attacks' aftermath] shows a man holding the severed arm of a young child ... Bloodied backpacks and schoolbooks can be seen in additional footage. Sources interviewed by media described burned, dismembered, and headless bodies. Several families lost more than one child."
A UN fact-finding mission has concluded that the U.S. committed war crimes in two attacks on Iran that killed scores of civilians, including over 120 children, on the first day of the war.
