Clearly Lula has won. The sense I get from family in Brazil however is that we should expect the Bolsonaro controlled congress to impeach Lula.

With Lula ahead at 50.45% after 58% of the vote counted he should win at a better level than this. Later results are rural and favour Lula. In that respect this trajectory looks to be a replay of the last election. So long as there is no structural change I’m unaware of.

31 years ago I moved to Germany for a year. The sum total preparation was they my company rented a temporary flat for a month and I packed my car and went. Why are my kids - now the age I was then - now denied this opportunity.

I’m hearing that the Brazilian news is reporting that buses in Salvador in Brazil, a Lula stronghold, are being disrupted preventing votes. Also planes the the North East are being cancelled due to non existent bad weather.

Absolutely on point. A PM’s job is to lead, not cower in fear.

Garvan Walshe@garvanwalshe.org

One: this is welcome Two: Burnham is the first PM in some time who’s remembered that he’s PM, so can set the agenda.

I'm in the West Bank this week as part of the “Protect the Harvest” coalition along with Israelis for Peace, Unarmed Civilian Protection in Palestine & Protect the Harvest.

Despite the hype, marketing and security issues here, this is a genuinely fascinating time to be alive. What we get to learn about intelligence, emergent behaviours and what happens when you throw in a corpus of training data created by humans - one of the nastiest animals - is going to be exotic.

I knew the Brick by Brick CEO who absolutely understood the brief, and cared to deliver it. Against that the company had a large team far beyond what was needed, and in general the Croydon management was hubristic and lacked the credentials to pull this off. Sad given this on the ground success.

Fionna O’Leary@fascinatorfun.bsky.social

I really hope this Croydon model of public house building doesn’t falter because of some errors in projections. These should be lessons learned to be fed into the next round of public housing, not to dismantle the Brick By Brick project that has won a RIBA award www.theguardian.com/artanddesign...

Wow. I’m so happy that Nigel Farage was interviewed by the Jewish Chronicle to defend Jews from Anti Semitism. What are the JC thinking of? In fairness NF probably knows quite a lot about AS.

Parry was eventually suspended in March 2026. The comms director felt he should have gone over the Dec 2025 comments questioning David Lammy's loyalty to Britain www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Absolutely nails the issue on what Britain needs to do re the EU. It’s going to take confidence and leadership. And navel gazing about whether the EU likes us because of 2016 and previous politicians just doesn’t help and isn’t relevant.

There are at least two international experts I know - both fierce critics of Israel's destruction campaign of Gaza - who believe the ICJ will not find Israel guilty of genocide, due to the highly conservative approach of the court. This is a real possibility, that should be considered.

Post of the day 👏👏👏 The lede is a killer. “The state that fought the Yom Kippur war isn’t going to abolish itself because some trendy prat from Stoke Newington really, really wants it to.”

@davidsonofaaron.bsky.social you mention York Uni asking JSoc to declare itself Anti Zionist. Add Bath Uni, 1987/8 to that wee list. bsky.app/profile/simo...

Simon Ziegler@simon.chameleonui.io

Thank you for this. I appreciate the support. The hard left have been doing this sort of thing since I was at uni in the mid 80s. Our SU held this debate and it lost. The SU VP threatened me personally with being excluded from the SU (big whoop) if I failed to attend and speak to support the motion.

Family members in Brazil who support Lula are gutted. They expect Bolsonaro to win. Even if Lula does they expect the congress to impeach him.

Catastrophe In Brazil with the far right surging State races, senate and congress races all going for the far right Presidential race going to a second round thankfully with bolsonaro’s son under 50 percent www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblo...

Post of the day 👏👏👏 (Yesterday)

Justin Sherin@wychstreet.bsky.social

The Battle of Cable Street. On 4 October 1936 Mosley tried to march his blackshirts through the East End, by concentration the most Jewish area in the world. The gov't refused to ban it. The Jewish press counseled calm. The Communist Party refused to assist, not wanting to be seen as hooligans.

@sianberry.bsky.social may well feel this way - and I don’t doubt her. HOWEVER Zionism is Racism is designed to assign Jews into 2 groups, Good Jews and Bad Jews. Good ones do as told. We Bad ones are bad because we feel affinity for Israel despite dismay and disgust at the Gaza genocide.

Sian Berry MP@sianberry.bsky.social

To Jewish members of the Green Party: Assurances, from the motion proposers, that they had no intention for Jewish members to feel targeted for their beliefs or associations have been clear. And if anyone else does try to use it in this way, I will be there for you with my solidarity and support.

But well done to the Greens for fixing the Middle East. Or at least bits of it. Go pass motions to fix the wars in Yemen and Iran and while you’re at it fix Sudan and Ethiopia please. You can do it.

Post of the day👏👏👏 “In reality, let's just say that there are enough hard left activists who regard Jewish people who aren't totally opposed to Israel's existence as unpeople” This has been true for half a century or more.

Chaminda Jayanetti@cjayanetti.bsky.social

re "Zionism is racism" - it's a cornerstone of British equality law that discrimination need not be intentional for it to be discriminatory I'm not making *legal* claims about the Green Party motion - but a policy that would render the vast majority of Jews as personae non gratae is flatly racist

This is such a consequential election for the whole world. There are two candidates. Lula is at best compromised but Bolsonaro is an outright disaster. Lula needs to win but a lot of voters won’t be voting for him because they see the bad side of him while forgetting how much worse Bolsonaro is.

Best for Britain@bestforbritain.org

🇧🇷 "A Bolsonaro presidency would be bad for women, the poor and minorities. Democracy would probably be its first, local victim. But the climate would surely be another – with consequences for us all."

Interesting point this. A lot of people who, like me are disgusted by Brexit insist that Europe wants nothing to do with the UK. Now that we’re a few years removed from the negotiations, this feels like unevidenced projection.

Mujtaba Rahman@mijrahman.bsky.social

Don't believe the Europeans when they say the UK is no longer interesting, a priority etc etc Every senior EU official I've met today in Brussels has spent 20 mins talking about @andyburnham.bsky.social speech. The EU is paying attention and interested - even if it pretends otherwise

I’m not saying that the markets aren’t a hit bubbly, but this isn’t a like for like comparison: 1. Price earnings ratios for the concentrated tech cos are good, whereas say in the DotCom bubble they were non existent. 2. Railroads really were 1 industry. The tech cos are super diverse.

Barchart@barchart.com

AI hits same concentration level that resulted in the bursting of previous bubbles, including the Dot Com 🚨 🚨
