I am now safe after being detained and interrogated by Israeli forces and denied entry to Palestine alongside other activists and elected representatives. I will share a fuller statement tomorrow. The @scottishgreens.org stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine.

As the cost-of-living crisis pushes households to the brink and climate breakdown places further stress on public services, only the Green Party are pushing for genuine action at the Budget this week.

It will take 119 yrs to get the social housing we need at the current building rate. And the funding for councils to buy homes is far, far too little. Sign my petition for a massive new Buy the Supply fund, to buy as well as build homes, to help fix this FAST! you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/fu...

The government didn’t just approve Jackdaw, they also reiterated their support for so-called tiebacks - a dodge to allow yet more new drilling without new licenses. This deserves almost as much scrutiny as Jackdaw and has got barely any of it, so I raised it in the Chamber.

“We need to make the transition as fast as possible, not least because genuinely, the future of our kids depends on this.” Ellie Chowns makes the case for accelerating the transition to clean, renewable energy following Labour's approval of Jackdaw on #BBCQT.

Day four on the Immigration and Asylum Bill Committee. Today I am opposing the utterly cruel proposal for a ‘Refugee Tax’ for the poorest refugees to pay back support they received, while they were banned from working, to the Home Office.

When the Home Secretary’s asylum proposals come back to the House I think many Labour MPs, not just those with refugee experience, will find it hard to stomach this Bill as it stands.

Jackdaw will not bring down bills or protect jobs. This is an irresponsible decision from a government that seems to care more about the profits of fossil fuel companies than the money in your pocket or the safety of our planet.

Sian Berry MP reposted

The govt itself has admitted Jackdaw won't bring down energy bills or create many jobs. So I asked the PM: does Labour disagree with the overwhelming scientific consensus that fossil fuels must stay in the ground? Or was lobbying from the oil and gas lobby simply too difficult to ignore?

As a member of the Committee scrutinising this awful Bill, I am calling on the Govt to abandon its plans for a Refugee Tax. Demanding refugees pay for the vital support received during their hardest days will push them into long-term poverty and there is no benefit for the country in doing this.

We have a crisis of inequality in this country. It has been fed by successive governments taxing work, not wealth. This government could change that - but it looks like they won’t…

Immigration and Asylum Bill Committee: Day Three I will be arguing against plans to downgrade the right to family life for asylum seekers who have been victims of exploitation, as well as Govt plans to lock refugees into decades of uncertainty, forced to renew their status every 30 months.

👟 Across five major parties, one message is clear: we need fewer screens, more sport. Green Party MP @sianberry.bsky.social backs our call for a Right to Sport. Children on free school meals are 10% less likely to take part in school sport. It's time we give every pupil the same chance.

Great news👏 Curbs on street ads for gambling was one of the very first things I asked the Council to do when I was elected MP. With clear evidence that gambling harm is rising, public health action like this is vital and urgent. www.brightonandhovenews.org/2026/10/16/a...

Well, he’s right in the sense there’d be economic growth - 0.05% according to UK govt’s impact assessment. Not much Same assessment also said the cost-benefit analysis, accounting for pollution, health impacts of noise etc would be negative by tens of billions of ££ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

During the assisted dying debate, Ministers made clear commitments to provide more support for palliative care services. Really helpful to catch up with my local hospice provider, Southern Hospice Group. It is vital we keep life-limiting illness at the top of the political agenda.

I have tabled a motion calling on the PM to implement in full the recommendations in the first report from the Ethics and Integrity Commission. We deserve nothing less than total transparency about who has the Government's ear. These recommendations would go a long way towards achieving this.

I have already heard from trans constituents who are avoiding essential NHS screening and treatment for fear of being treated without respect and dignity. Ministers told me: “the revised guidance will support the privacy, dignity and safety of all patients” How exactly does this do that?

Just brilliant to see the new Green administration in Lambeth saving these excellent estates so decisively, after many years of listening and working with residents to defend their homes. When I launched my 2021 Mayor manifesto, Cressingham Gdns was the obvious place to hightlight our values. 💚💚👏👏

In other news: two architecturally celebrated council estates in south London that have been under threat of demolition for more than a decade, Cressingham Gardens and Central Hill, have been saved. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

Bill Committee: Day Two Nigel Farage is calling for charities like the RNLI to be prosecuted for saving lives, and Robert Jenrick is saying Reform will authorise legal force against asylum seekers. Meanwhile I am scrutinising a Labour Bill that is completely the wrong response to this awfulness.

I have raised concerns with ministers about the welfare of the beagles at MBR Acres, a breeding facility for laboratory animals. Animal testing belongs in the past but while we win that, the welfare of all animals must be better protected.

To have a shot at meeting our climate targets, "we can't have any new oil and gas." Funding new fossil fuels is "irresponsible and short-sighted." These aren't my words - they're past statements from our current Energy Secretary. So I asked her - what's changed?

I want Brighton and Hove residents to be decision-makers in the future of our seafront. I have welcomed the Council’s ambition to invest in our city’s biggest asset. Let’s involve our community to co-produce ideas for improvement rooted in Brighton’s spirit, values and talents. buff.ly/8Z8IqA3

Day one of Bill Committee for the Immigration and Asylum Bill. The last time I took part in this process was for the Courts and Tribunals Bill which tried to take away jury trial rights. The very worst parts of that Bill have now been watered down.

Pitting NHS funding against the right to asylum is textbook Reform, who already plan on privatising our healthcare to line the pockets of its billionaire backers. A ‘normal country’ upholds basic human rights for all. It doesn’t sow division and spread poison. Britain deserves much better.
