Oxfam says some of the super-rich profit from both climate pollution & the response to disaster. It sounds uncomfortably like the villainous Baroness Lydia Frampton in my eco-thriller #FloodWatersDown - “A reordering of the world. A chance to remake the rules.” www.theguardian.com/environment/...

#bbcbreakfast Brexit has not been “reopened because of Andy Burnham”, but because: - it’s turned out to be a costly mistake - geopolitics shows we can’t rely on the US, but need to work with our neighbours with whom we share common interests - the public has turned against it

Thanks for revisiting the review of #FloodWatersDown Mark. One of the unsettling things about writing near-future climate fiction is watching elements of the imagined future edge ever closer to present-day reality. The question is whether we recognise the warnings in time to change the ending.

Often described as a prophet or a visionary or a serious writer. Possibly the best novelist this country has produced, though his writing owes a lot to his formative years in Singapore. Great book covers!

J.G. Ballard's dystopian worlds fascinated me as a teenager. Decades later, they seem disturbingly close to reality. How his writing influenced my own novel #FloodWatersDown – and why Ballard still matters. #JGBallard #DystopianFiction #ClimateFiction #Booksky simcomm.blogspot.com/2026/10/why-...

Out in today’s sunshine, researching & photographing exciting new locations for the sequel to #FloodWatersDown. Familiar characters and places will return, of course… but the story moves on. A stronghold on higher ground, overlooking the flooded Fens... Any guesses? #Booksky #author #novel

Effectively it’s war in space.

Russian military satellite Kosmos 2612 is now closely shadowing ICEYE-X36, a radar satellite supporting Ukraine, after maneuvering into nearly the same orbit. Such proximity could allow Russia to monitor or interfere with transmissions and potentially position itself for an anti-satellite operation

This would be climate vandalism and endanger our national security: fossil fuel dependence funds regimes like Putin and Iran. We will never solve the cost of living crisis if we don't end our dependence on gas. Unbelievable short sightedness by Burnham: clearly in hock to the fossil fuel industry.

I'm back from an interesting few days at #IAC2026 in Antalya, Turkiye, representing ROOM Space Journal. Always a good space event & met a lot of interesting people, including Ameca - a humanoid robot who could hold a decent conversation in multiple languages. Scary, piercing eyes though!

“You maniacs! You blew it up!” More than half a century after Planet of the Apes, that final scene still has the power to shock. Flood Waters Down - a near-future #climate & #AI thriller. Different apocalypse. Same uncomfortable question: did we see it coming and carry on anyway? #Booksky #film
