There is an international, well-connected network of fascists promoting far-right candidates in elections (and coups) across the world. The guy who owns the site Yglesias posted this on is one of their leaders. Be careful of people advocating for their opponents to disarm!

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

The way this goes from serene to expansive to tense (yet cathartic) is an impressive shift. A lot is owed to how reserved the electronic elements are, they don’t really make themselves known until the halfway point. If you’re a fan of Tim Hecker’s Dropped Pianos I highly recommend this one.

It’s interesting to notice the room sound become more prominent. Earlier it just feels like part of the recording, but it almost feels like ocean waves by the end. Rarely do you see a noise floor become part of the composition in that way, really cool

I still post here from time to time despite the fact that Bluesky users don't know what music is and only listen to political podcasts they disagree with

I got into a coffee-shop conversation with a few people about what we were reading, and a guy apologized because he was reading Infinite Jest and therefore being "performative". I told him that the idea of the "performative male" is a right-wing idea meant to police gender. I hope he believed me.

I think 'the Tiger in the Tiger Who Came To Tea is an analogy for your mum having an affair' is my absolute favourite 'this absolutely isn't what the author meant, the author has disavowed it, but it is just about plausible' way-too-serious reading of a children's book. What's yours?

in 2027 we're going to bring back "yelling at people because they won't follow you." we last did this 15 years ago on twitter but it's going to be even cooler now that we are all around 40 years old

Sometime I need to sacrifice a cassette shell to use it as a runner, then just have the actual tape run outside of the machine so it can be any length A bit messier, but allows for a much longer loop

The outlet you’re emailing is busy. The writer is likely juggling multiple articles at once. They might have genuinely meant to respond and missed it. You’re allowed to send follow up emails as long as you’re nice and don’t spam the shit out of them. “Just following up on this” is FINE.

As someone who only started picking up creative hobbies in their late thirties, I am only just now realizing the biggest barrier to making progress is accepting something is just going to look/sound/read/play like shit until you actually get to an invisible milestone where it comes together.

If you’re playing live music and you make a mistake, never admit it as this will take the audience out of the moment. Instead blame someone else, like a band member, somebody in the audience or an acquaintance who isn’t at the show to defend themselves.

It turns out people don’t want to gamble on getting detained for no reason

Visitors to the US are on track to drop by almost two million year-on-year. “We’re the only major country in the world losing visitation,” the head of the US Travel Association said. “It’s mind-boggling.” www.semafor.com/article/09/2...
