One difference between me and many people is that I still expect that mainstream news outlets are reporting on facts even if I dislike their “bias”, find their editorial curation lacking, and disagree with their opinion pieces. Inaccuracies are not common, get surfaced and are unintentional.

If you have a personal policy of assuming entire outlets fabricate facts, you allow your preferred media to convince you by omission. You value anonymous influencers more. You weaken the effect of truth over bias in your decisions. People who believe nothing believe incredibly weird sh*t.

Why is the US removing bombers from RAF bases? Because Russia. Why are we attacking Iran? Because Russia. Why are we killing people in boats without due process? Because Russia. Why is our country so paralyzed by culture wars that we can’t work together? It’s always Russia. It’s never not Russia

Russia’s private military groups in Mali used captured soldiers for medical training. Reminiscent of WW2 Unit 731 of Japan or SS scientists from Germany. These are the same era brutalities from a totalitarian regime that was not defeated in WW2, but continues to terrorize to this day.

"Low-T JD" is a nickname that will bring down JD Vance even more than being caught telling lies, putting iron skillets in the washing machine or allegedly being the last one to see the previous pope alive.

El-Sayed responds to JD Vance clip: Low T JD. It's always funny, man. He just brings the energy down every time you hear him talk.

This administration often flouts the general US Flag code. Just being interested in flags, I point out these violations. The biggest problem here is allowing the flag to touch the floor. I understand its a digital flag, but this is no reason to treat it differently, this being a govt presentation

It is noted that the President of the United States has authority as commander in chief to modify flag customs by proclamation or executive order. However guidance in contradiction to these general rules has not been issued, nor do I expect new rules allowing the flag on the ground to appear.

If I am being nit-picky, the flag is usually meant to appear to the left (own right) of other flags or emblems. Sandwiching it between two other banners is not within general custom. Also, what is wrong with a real flag? Why have this giant menacing candy-stripe background to highlight bad lighting?

Other rules derive from this fundamental rule: the relative distance from the ground when flying with other flags, the speed at which the flag departs from and approaches the ground, and the importance of always touching the top of the pole before descending to half distance from the ground.

The flag must not touch the ground during a funeral, either. The only time the flag is to touch the ground is after it has been retired with honor in a large fire and the ashes buried.

Let’s face it: radix ui components with beige and orange or hacker-console neon-on-black color schemes, edgey small all-caps sans font flourishes dotted with indicator lights and absurd options dialogs is fronting out even the most principled vibe coders.

I refuse to live in a world where, due to the ubiquity of such tools, it is accepted and understandable that everything sounds a “little” bit like ChatGPT.

This implies an inverted world where I know effort has been made due to the presence of obvious spelling errors, bad grammar, unqualified assertions, poor punctuation and improper capitalization

One thing in common among possibly harmful beliefs: preparing for the future by putting resources into hedging against a non-present, but infinitely far away future retroactive judgement or moral discretion.

Accelerationism: the belief that a dystopian future can somehow be avoided by reaching it faster. #openai #llm #ai

The reason the AI companies keep trying to ask to be regulated is because they are actually scared; but because they can’t fall behind, they keep going.

Can god make a stone so heavy he can’t lift? Yes, if he cuts his own arms off after making it. That power is something I think we can agree is well within his abilities.

Any true superintelligence takeover happens well before the super intelligence exists. Humanity’s greatest asset — authoritative collective imagination — will be the thing that destroys it.

Remember that time the US declared war on England and it ended with Washington burning down? It’s kinda funny that that’s the war where we got our national anthem

To be a citizen, you must be "subject to the jurisdiction" of this country. Commonlaw would also have it that you have to "owe obedience or allegiance" to the country. How does a person who is literally above the law, shows no obedience to the country and pays no taxes maintain citizenship?

In a liberal democracy, whenever freedoms are increasing for some, there is the possibility for freedoms to increase for everyone. The opposite is also true; when you are taking negative rights away from others, you are oppressing yourself.

It feels like a very of-the-moment American pathology where the casino becomes an oracle, the odds become epistemology, where everyone involved insists this is innovation and progress because the roulette wheel now has an API.

if it were possible for Trump to have cheated in the 2024 election: 1) would he have passed on the opportunity to do it? 2) would we notice if he did? 3) would we then ask for a recount? 4) would we overcome Trump conditioning us to not look? All are “no”. And cheating is possible. Prove me wrong.

"But you, too, will have to fight much harder for your own existence — not Russia’s, but your own. And this is not a threat from me or from Ukraine. It is a fact of Russian history that you know well: when Russia grows tired, change comes. We can work toward that fatigue. You can stop your war."

• Ukraine has been transforming their military emphasizing unmanned warfare, saving their own troops' lives • Ukraine has prioritized maximizing the casualties of Russia's military • Russia has been losing territory for the first time in nearly two years • Unrest is imminent in Russia

Russia is finally starting to show the first signs of cracking. Been a downward spiral since February but recently the people there are finally starting to have had enough of their government’s murderous and selfish ways.

The US has lost an E-3 Sentry AWACS. If this was a game of chess, this would be your eyeballs and both arms. This is a level of incompetence previously reserved for Russia. But, to Russia’s credit, they didn't have the precedent of this happening before it happened to them in the same exact way.

There is one thing that is not well enough known about Donald Trump. It is not that he is complicated, mysterious, a sly strategist, a conspirator; nor any ulterior motive, secret plan or ambition. No one holds any leverage of any significance over him. He is simply an idiot.

The elevator shaft wasn’t perfected until they put an elevator inside it. But there was of course no way to know that in advance.
