I'm a 3D generalist with a faible for PBR materials and technical stuff like shaders. I use either UE or Godot, depending on the project.

My interpretation today is unusually colorful for me, but I really like the effect of the SSS. Exercise 9/10 #Blender #GeometryNodes #MotionDesign #MotionGraphics

Today's animation exercise is a kind of particle system created entirely with Geometry Nodes. Since the video is relatively large, I uploaded it to YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbHR... Almost done, that was Exercise 8 of 10 #Blender #GeometryNodes #MotionDesign #MotionGraphics

Volumes are really computationally intensive. That brings me to Animation 7/10 #Blender #MotionDesign #MotionGraphics

I was really surprised that today's animation didn't come until the second half of the course, but I suppose the course author had a reason for it. So now I'm on animation 6 of 10 #Blender #MotionDesign #MotionGraphics

And here is the next loopable animation. For anyone who finds this annoying, this is animation 4/10. So you still have 6 more to sit through. #Blender #MotionDesign #MotionGraphics

Somehow, another day has already gone by... So here's another exercise from the course I'm currently taking, with my somewhat different interpretation. #Blender #MotionDesign #MotionGraphics

New day, new motion design exercise #Blender #MotionDesign #MotionGraphics

To unwind, I'm currently dabbling a bit in motion design. I'm taking the new course from Ducky3D, and this is my take on the first hands-on exercise. I just love getting lost in these looping animations. #Blender #MotionDesign

Anyone who has ever talked to me about game engines should know how much Godot matters to me. Unfortunately, in my new article, I'm addressing an important, but certainly not cheerful, topic: www.somethinglikegames.de/en/blog/2026... #Godot #GameDev #Indie

somethinglikegames.deSLG | Godot Is Too Friendly To ThievesGodot makes it shockingly easy for thieves: Exported projects can often be reconstructed in just a few minutes. Here's what developers can do about it.

Look before you leap. So I worked around my issues with gogpu/ui to create a user-friendly UI, only to find out that Go's central image library doesn't support RGB - only RGBA... Hopefully I'll have learned from this next time, but for now I need to find something more suitable. #Golang #TechArt

www.somethinglikegames.de/en/ is back online 🎉 It was for two months offline because the constant scraping by AI bots became too much. During the downtime, I developed and implemented a multi-step strategy to limit traffic from these unwanted visitors without overly restricting human visitors.

My blog was created for other interested people, and since various providers refuse to adhere to agreed-upon rules (such as those in robots.txt) and in some cases even use VPNs to conceal their origins, I am closing the blog to everyone.

As soon as I come up with a good and feasible solution, I will make the old content available again and also work on new content, but until then, I’m sorry.

Time that I was happy to invest in other people, but not to provide information to stochastic models whose hardware and energy demands ensure that everyone outside this one industry has to suffer while individual large corporations fight out their competitive battles.

Throughout this time, I have tried to make my blog as user-friendly as possible. There are no analytics, no cookies, and no monetization. But I am no longer willing to continue feeding the data kraken in the AI space with free information that they then misinterpret.

So true...

I've been reading through The Manual tonight (a circa 1988 slightly-tongue-in-cheek-but-not-really booklet about how to publish a number one single in the UK) through the lens of an indie game developer, and there's a LOT that resonates 40 years later and across different industries, but THIS.

I just finished my next article. After so many Linux articles, it's time to get back to the original topics: www.somethinglikegames.de/en/blog/2026... I'm curious to see how much I'll have to correct in the next few days 😄 So feel free to correct me #GameDev #Graphics #Textures #Pipeline

Is it possible that since Unreal Engine 5.7, you can no longer create C++ projects using the wizard? I only have Blueprint to choose from and am wondering if it's just me or my Linux, or if it's a general change. In 5.6.1, I have both options to choose from. #UE #UnrealEngine

Lately, I've been reading a lot of posts about networking. I agree with the main points, that it's important and that ideally you should make friends, but beyond that, it gets complicated for me. People are different, and we shouldn't forget that.

For me, this means that an evening event can be so exhausting that I can't go to the office the next day. Visiting a conference can have an even longer lasting effect. It's not that I don't like others; I usually enjoy meeting them and having conversations, but it just takes a lot of energy.

It's been a while since I last posted anything, but despite my current problems, I would like to share my slate material with you, as it is more than just a material to me.
