NL can't do pharmacare because the FEDS are blocking us (and it's not because we're led by cons since they did it to our libs as well). Hell housing is absolutely undeniably provincial responsibility yet for half of the 20th century the federal govt directly funded housing efforts. Yet under the

Trudeau jr govt the feds offered billions of dollars to the third level of govt, municipalities, with stipulations they change their regulations. Nothing is x level of government's responsibility solely and to use that as an excuse to do nothing actively harms our collective future.

having efficiency stipulations. Healthcare is also technically provincial yet the Canada healthcare act is federal and half the funding is supposed to come from the federal govt yet the feds cut their transfers down. Pharmacare while provincially administered gets funded from the federal govr

Not the most important thing in this moment, but I sincerely feel the Canadian default crisis-response of offering little to no public information is a deeply toxic trait. We're long past the point where a summary of the known facts can be shared responsibly. Not doing so invites misinformation.

Just want to say thanks @rachelgilmore.bsky.social for actually talking about and reporting on the pipeline bullshit accurately despite the tidal wave of defense for the govts economically non-viable, future destroying, opportunity squandering, climate heating, temp job providing only pipeline.

If you follow me for some reason (im some rando who yells into the void), and you don't already follow her, you should, shes one of the best journalists in the country.

A year and a half ago Singh called for a warroom to meet the threat Trumps electoral victory posed us. The PM (Trudeau), the LPC dependent on the NDP for power, the CPC, The CBC, the rest of the news media, and the general public ridiculed him and the NDP as a whole. Now people casually say were at

war to defend the current PM and the majority LPC govt who up until a few weeks ago did nothing but bend over for the US, who still sell us to the Americans through their companies, who are destroying our labour rights. If we prepared when Singh sounded the alarm we'd be far better off.

Instead the party we are rallying behind to defend us ridiculed the idea that we were going to be in an economic war with the US. They use nationalism to paint harm as good, they use the US to justify needlessly harmful actions, and they give us tokens to keep us rallying behind them.

Privatization wasn’t on the ballot when Canadians voted for Mark Carney. Really foul the way he’s using the blind trust so many continue to have in him to make massive, fundamental changes to Canada (hurting normal Canadians) so big companies can profit. Please pay attention.

The most fervent supporters of the 'economic genius' PM dont seem to understand something as simple as investment isnt free money. Investors expect control and returns on projects. Giving up control weakens our soverignty and giving up taxes on these projects gives up economic benefits.

It shouldn't have taken the US trying to modify a deal at the last minute that already favoured them afetr they levied illegal tarrifs against us to realize that when theyve been violating treaties and making up reasons for tarrifs since trump entered office.

Concessions to get back to the table for negotiating concessions to get back to trade talks where we have to then give concessions to get a deal already biased against us that the US will conveniently ignore its responsibilities in is not negotiation, its appeasement, its capitulation.

Throughout this whole process English Canadian media has treated Churchill Falls as a side note because it involves NL and Quebec, and it still continues to do so. CBC: Churchill Falls is less important than… Australian beef prices. Radio-Canada: Churchill Falls is the top story.

Gotta love how two provinces have spent over a fucking year negotiating after the disaster of a previous one left one half of the agreement in ruin and in comes Mark Carney to claim it as his achievement, as his investment, as his project despite the fact he wasnt included at all until a few days

ago. Hes not making the largest investment in clean energy in this countrys history, Newfoundland & Labrador AND Quebec are. He is putting a few bucks on top of a project were self funding despite our history which the feds had only worsened.

Though the LPC could have claimed some real victory here instead of taking our win if they actually talked pharmacare with NL instead of ignoring us on that while putting a billion down to fuck over newfoundlands protected areas with norweigian offshore oil drilling. Fuck cons in red or blue

When people look back on Carneys time as PM they will note it as more ruinious than his idols times combined (Chretein, Martin, Harper) and on par domestically with Margaret Thatchers time as Britians PM since hes just doing everything she did despite seeing the poverty in person while studying.

Lot of "🇨🇦" in username and/or bio people arguing we shouldn't enforce our airspace and instead should just let warcriminals through because someone we would be causing an international incident if another country violates our airspace... If we give up every principle, what is left for us to defend?

Anyone who thinks nukes can provide us security needs to shut up about national security and soverignty. The path to a nuke would actually force the hand of the USA to invade us. A single nuke cannot kill enough innocent people to matter to a fascist states leadership. A hundred nukes without

delivery systems also can't do the single thing they're designed to. But hey you want us to be the newest violator of nuclear treaties so we can kill millions of civillians which will only engage the US assuming they haven't already invaded to prevent an untenable threat to their security.

What will we abandon to pay for the nukes? Because surely we're not gonna cut military spending since even with a fully capable nuclear arsenal we would need a conventional military anyways. So what good thing will we abandon for nukes that will do jack for our soverignty?

1/ Climate change is not some far-off threat. It is here. It is happening.   And it is caused by the burning of fossil fuels that the Liberal government is pouring billions of public money into expanding.   This is the crisis we cannot afford to ignore.

So putting aside all the million other harmful things Parliment has done, now were gonna buy more miltiary hardware from companies the US has say over AND were meeting with the US on how to combat leftist extremism. I thought Carney was just 21st century Chamberlain but hes more a Mosely or Pétain.

This week in Winnipeg and across the country, we are once again experiencing extreme heat and severe weather events that are posing increasing risks to community health and public safety. In Winnipeg, temperatures rose to 47 degrees with the humidex earlier this week.

in disaster relief funds, in resource loss (fish stocks and forests), in labour losses to health and food concerns, in housing losses, in power infrastructure losses, before you admit that fossil fuels costs us far more than it could ever make. Multibillion pipelines and terminals that take decades

to break even while every bit of oil and gas to pass through them costs us tenfold what it sells for in the medium to long-term? How many generations must suffer for the rich few to get more money, how many tax dollars must be wasted for a private company to avoid all infrastructure costs?

To anyone who reads those who thinks pipelines are necessary for economic prosperity to give us a green transition (ignoring the fact that the green transition is more profitable than oil), how many towns are worth it? How many communities must burn to the ground? How many kids must spend the

rest of their lives breathing in wildfire smoke every year increasing their likelihoods of lung cancer and other such illnesses? How many people must be rendered homeless and destitute as their home and/or workplace are destroyed by fires and floods, by hurricanes and tornadoes? How many countries

should cease to exist as they are literally swallowed by the ocean? How many farms must fail? How many reservoirs must deplete? How many lives must be lost before you will recognize the cost of fossil fuel use? Or to use a language you understand, how much should a barrel of oil cost us

How many billions in pipelines will the province threatening to seceede get while the entirety of the Atlantic gets jack shit. A fraction of the Trudeau govt's purchase or the Carney govt's promise would pay off Muskrat falls off in this entirety.

If Newfoundland & Labrador's Premier had spent every waking moment since taking office attacking the federal govt, sabatoging national projects, and threatening secession, would we get a multibillion dollar project? Would the feds force Quebec to back down from their objections to such a project?

Seeing as we've been nothing but a loyal little backwater the federal govt keeps abandoning its responsibilites for maybe our Premier should do that since decades of that made sure Alberta was catered to at every moment no matter how much it harmed national unity.

An opportunity hes lighting on fire so we can be stuck in the red on a miltibillion dollar pipeline for a dying resource while China becomes the undisputed energy superpower by being the only country in the world with enough industry dedicated to making solar wind and nuclear for export.

Mark Carney@mark-carney.bsky.social

Canada has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become a global energy superpower.    We’re seizing it. In partnership with Alberta, Indigenous Peoples, and industry, we’re building a stronger Canada for all.

Today is memorial day in NL and later today it will then be Canada Day. For those who don't know Newfoundland and Labrador was a Dominion independent of Canada during the first World War. Thousands of our tiny population went over to fight and in the Somme suffered a 93% casualty rate.

At Beaumont-Hamel in the Somme on July 1st, 1916 780 Newfoundlanders went over the top, 110 survived the battle in some way shape or form with only 68 capable of being there for roll call the next day. So, before you celebrate Canada day, remember the sacrifice made 110 years ago to the day.
