Related: When we consider the future longevity of scientific meetings, one thing to consider is the increasing precarity of academia, which means there's less early/mid-career people who can reasonably volunteer for leadership roles in societies when lots of us don't know where we'll be in 6 months.
NASA Night is tonight at DPS and I would really, really like it if the community could move beyond the prevailing "hoping that in a few years things will improve again somehow" towards some collective action about what it is we want to preserve in planetary science as things are gutted. Anyway:

Phobos is unique in a lot of ways, but one is that its largest crater is named after a woman! Chloe Angeline Stickney Hall worked with her husband to search for the moons of Mars, though ceased helping him with the calculations when he refused to pay her a man’s wages for her work.
Crater Fact Friday ☄️DID YOU KNOW☄️ that Mars' moon Phobos has a massive crater? Stickney is 9 km across and is named after Chloe Angeline Stickney Hall, an American mathematician and suffragist whose calculations were critical to the discovery of the martian moons in 1877. We'll learn more with MMX!
Come for the great writing of @bowlerhatscience.org, stay for my increasingly unhinged explanation of how we can form the Moon in under 5 hours (but only sometimes!)
The old Theia is dead, a new Moon struggles to be born. Now is the time of monsters. . . er, new models for the formation of our Moon. Adeene Denton (@spacewhalerider.com) and colleagues showed a way to smooth the process of Moon formation. 🔭🧪 eos.org/articles/was...

If you’re sent a paper to review, remember that you make choices. Choices of which papers to review and why, choices of which standards to apply and why. Rigorous peer review is one of the bedrocks of our field. Where we, as the reviewing community, draw our lines, is where the lines get drawn.
interestingggg.... paper on the arXiv tonight of a new planet candidate found with and written up entirely by AI, including the caveat, "The author has not independently checked the analyses and does not have the expertise to verify every technical detail." arxiv.org/abs/2610.28575

I did a deep dive on my newest paper on AAS's YouTube channel! This one's for the true nerds that want to know all about what material strength is, how giant impact codes work and why we're still not quite sure how the Moon formed. If that's you, this interview is for you!
New AAS Journal Author Series: Adeene Denton (Southwest Research Institute) on how rock strength changes the Moon-forming giant impact. In her simulations, a hot, solid Theia can leave an intact Moon, while a colder, stronger Theia makes the classic debris disk. www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWR6... 🔭
