All visualizations (except the map) in this project where built with #SveltePlot by @driven-by-data.net. Very nice to work with, offering quite some flexibility in terms of custom marks and responsive adaptation.

Public data is only useful if people can actually use it. After Montréal restored public access to its bike counter data last month, I decided to built a dashboard to explore cycling trends across these counters. 🚲 compteurs-cycliste.r42.ca Regularly updated as new data becomes available.

Nice map. Tells you so much when you know Germany. You can clearly see all the diffeent mountain chains and the mono-culture in the north.

The old East–West divide is fading. Berlin’s electoral map is now clearly structured by a center–periphery divide: inside the S-Bahn Ring—the circular urban rail line surrounding central Berlin—the left camp dominates. Support for the right bloc rises with distance from the center. (1/2)

I've just done the largest update to the #dataviz starter pack, with 30 accounts (20%) replaced. It means it will generate more content now. Might be worth re-clicking. Sadly, gender imbalance got worse. I saved 5 spots for women-run accounts. Send suggestions, including yourself! Replies or DMs.

Agreed. This why I build a dedicated website for bike counters in Montreal: compteurs-cycliste.r42.ca So people can actually get an overview or a more complete picture on how much cycling has gained traction over the past years. Thanks for sharing @ohtheurbanity.bsky.social

Every city needs more bike counters. It's a great way to show that bike lanes are busy even when they appear empty. (And they often appear empty because cyclists don't get stuck in traffic.)

@techniq.dev - my first public project using LayerChart 2. Was a real pleasure. Bar charts + Sankey were created with your library, Waffle and Treemap are based on my own #Svelte library. I would love if you could use this as a reference 😁

Thanks to @datawrapper.de for including the World Cup polygon treemap in the latest Data Vis Dispatch. The microsite is now live: world-cup-26.r42.ca more to come...

We just published a new Data Vis Dispatch! Explore the best of last week's charts and maps about the World Cup ⚽️🏆 , the heat in Europe 🔥🥵, Middle East alliances 🇮🇷, US politics 🇺🇸, and more: www.datawrapper.de/blog/data-vi...

I am using #LayerChart from @techniq.dev for the first time and I am absolutely stunned how well IA agents can understand and translate my requirements (series labels with dodging, #dataWrapper style date axis, modern gridlines, line interpolation..) This task took me weeks when I hand coded them!

I added a new visual to the #Montreal #bikeCounter project. Which bike counter sees the most cyclists — and does that change over the year? Hover over the lines and find out. Data updates daily, the race is on. Project: compteurs-cycliste.r42.ca

There are a lot of interesting chart variations in this addendum to the report of the Canadian Climate Institute. I guess, I should read the report to entirely understand them 😅

This report was a HUGE effort from everyone across the City Intelligence Unit!! Really proud of my team for delivering the design and engineering. This digital release builds on years of development of our #Svelte component library, and London City Data Design System! 🥳 📊 #dataviz

The State of London report 2026 is out today. The GLA’s annual report with over 100 datasets about the capital’s economy, society, environment, all in one place. Published for the first time as a fully digital report: apps.london.gov.uk/state-of-lon...

Nice find while travelling in Europe. German version of Atlas de la mondialisation (published by Le Monde diplomatique).

When D3 was released in February 2011, it transformed how we build data visualizations for the web and ushered in a new age of unbridled creativity in information design, data journalism, and beyond. Today, it remains the backbone of modern, interactive data viz. Happy 15th birthday, D3 🎂 d3js.org

This new visual start to work out really nice: A Likert scale bar chart with neutral values in the center and automatic calculations of the overall score (in this example: net score). Still a few features missing, but getting there.

The Winter Olympics are almost over. A good moment to look back at the stream of medals over time. The Olympics try to stay apolitical, but this steamgraph still reflects European history, much like cold winters leave marks in a tree’s rings. Created in #PowerBI with: r42.ca/articles/tim...

When running #DataViz workshops, one question that often gets asked is "what's your favourite ever chart?" 📊 So I've started compiling some of the awesome visualisations made by other people that I often share! A very much a work-in-progress, non-exhaustive list: nrennie.rbind.io/fave-data-viz/

Nice analysis of a nicely done chart.

Nicely done chart. I like the white bands on grey background. 📊 Interesting that they define the first and last correspond with a legend. Maybe it wasn’t obvious enough to some. The 2019 annotation looks like it was hard to position. Ordering unclear.

This is an amazing weekend lecture. 🧡

A group of German journalism students investigated the drone sightings over military installations in Western Europe and in one instance tracked it back to three commercial vessels belonging to Russian services.

These two visuals are now also available on the Power BI Marketplace and mostly free to use, even without a license. Simple visuals, no coding required like when using the Deneb visual.

I don't use PowerBI so most of what I know is second hand but I was surprised to learn that you can make cool charts like these because I always hear about the limitations. Those were developed by @spandl.ca who presented them when he visited Voilà: a few weeks ago.

Including Waffle charts!

SveltePlot 0.7 is out! Lots of new features since the last time I posted here: 🎉 jitter transform, 🐝 dodge transform (for beeswarm plots), 🎉 stackMarimekko, 📸 image mark, and most recently the 🧇 waffle mark! And the website now features a ton of examples. ➡️ svelteplot.dev
