Running a tiny hardware shop in this day and age is always going to be a tale of ups and downs - but today... Older chap and small lad looking in the window. 'This,' says the chap with something approaching joy and reverence, 'this is the magic shop.' I am officially a wizard 🙂

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Look, you gotta make your own art. It doesn't have to be good. Tbh, it shouldn't be. Good is when there's no scanlines on the VHS, no personality on the soul. Make something that's you. Because everything else ends up at a big company, and the CEO will always kill it first chance they get.

My first 5* TTRPGs, in the order I played them: 1. Runequest 2E 2. Traveller 3. MERP 4. Call of Cthulhu 5. Stormbringer *doesn't include that homebrew WFRP we played in secondary school, somewhere between 3 & 4

My first 5 TTRPGs, in the order I played them: 1. Red Box Basic Dungeons and Dragons 2. Call of Cthulu 3. D&D 5e 4. Liminal Horror 5. Mothership Only properly started branching out recently from 5e in spite of planning it for 1.5 years. The last campaign was longer than anticipated by 14 months.

A lovely slice of weird fiction from @raynewman.bsky.social this morning. Brilliant stuff.

FICTION: “Trident House has glamoured her and, in her glamour, she is unaware of what draws her there and stalks her through the concrete weald – the imprint of a vanished forest, a distorted memory, an inverted thing.” precastreinforced.co.uk/2026/10/23/f...

First customer of the day can be important - their attitude can really chart the course for your hours ahead. This morning, first customer, an older lady (77, she said) came in, looking worried, 'is it true that you're closing?' 'Falsehoods!' I said, 'scurrilous rumours put about by our foes'

She looked relieved, good and proper. I asked her who'd told her this, but she couldn't remember where she'd heard it. She bought a load of 30mm keyrings for something she was making, and left in an absolutely joyous mood. So, getting a wet, murky Thursday off on the right foot 🙂

I know it's usually Self-Promotion Saturday but I was elsewhere at the time. So, in lieu, here's a Rivers of London RPG thread of all the lovely stuff my team has made. Please share if you know folks who might enjoy!

Ran session 2 of Going Underground tonight, very interesting to see my players trying to shake off their CoC preconceptions. Fave bit? Our lawyer character getting impaired at seeing his first ghost, and half-fleeing, shouting OBJECTION! OBJECTION! After that, all went well. Running more RoL 👍

Characters generated tonight, everyone stuck to their initial ideas. Only one Newtonian practitioner though (not surprised, my group are decades-long CoC players and are always suspicious of magic). We've kicked off with Going Underground by @lynneahardy.bsky.social 🙂

We've started a rewatch of Fringe (a first rewatch since 2008) - but this time we've got our 15 with us. Interested to see what he thinks! I love it 🙂

Kindle: 'Stephen King title' is on sale today. Didn't recognise the title (odd) so looked into it - it's a short story collection by a bunch of authors and at the bottom of the listing says 'Due to contractual stuff, Stephen Kings's story is NOT in the ebook version only print'. Hilarious stuff.

Blimey, that's just brilliant!

Ayup #PortfolioDay! I’m Paul. Decided to teach myself to myself to draw at 47. That was 8 years ago, and I absolutely love it. It’s brought me so much joy :) I particularly like drawing tiny figures in huge landscapes.

A friend lent me The Time Traveller’s Wife years and years ago, well before the film, in an attempt to find a book that bridged our shared reading interests. I really enjoyed it. Now there’s a sequel?

Its odd, but I’ve never read Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House - or seen any of the other media based on it, so I’m going in unprepared - and the novel’s first paragraph just decides to punch me right in the face with this absolute beauty: :)

Well, my group have already been coming up with character ideas for Rivers of London! So far we have two constables, a lawyer, a social worker, and either a member of the clergy or a private investigator. No word yet on any practitioners! Character generation on Monday 🙂

A customer has just told me how an employee at a local branch of *ahem* Large National Tool Suppliers had stealthily whispered our name to him in recommendation when they didn't have what he needed. Our name being whispered? In secret? Like a code or magic word? I like that a lot 🙂
