Ray Newman

I'm proud of my three collections of ghost stories and weird fiction, not least because together they've apparently created a sense of what Newmanesque might mean. Get them here: www.amazon.co.uk/stores/Ray-N...

Find your ideal career by combining the videos the YouTube algorithm feeds you - me, I'm destined to be a stop-motion animator, working from my home studio deep in the haunted Venetian Lagoons. I can only collect craft materials by boat.

Been gumming for a French tacos since I first heard tell of them via @eoghanwalshbxl.bsky.social last July brusselsnotes.substack.com/p/211-world-.... Didn't disappoint.

This was real broadcast TV in Wales in the 70s. Comes close to the oddness of the QTV clip m.youtube.com/watch?v=_rWo...

These Committee meetings seem to last an eternity…

Watched the original 1954 Godzilla movie. The guy who sits beside me in Japanese class told me it's what got him interested in Japan. Thought it was great. Lots of monster movie tropes that perhaps originated in the movie - a strong moral edge to it too. Must watch the other 50 Godzilla movies.

‘… what were all that about?’

Stop what you are doing and look at this lovely story. A photography student in the 80s took pictures of punks and mods on the street in Preston. He’s now tracked them down and photographed them again. The pictures and stories are really ❤️ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Jesus *is* gop, yes.

I like this Billy Joel quite about Wichita Lineman: ‘Ultimately Wichita Lineman is about an ordinary man thinking extraordinary thoughts.’

Compile your own Shining soundtrack with the miracle of secondhand compact discs. These are all the recordings used in the film. The version of Penderecki's Utrenja is only available on Polish discs which I haven't gone looking for as yet.

“We tell people to be bold, but meaningful decisions still travel upwards... We expect them to work in the open, but work passes through layers of assurance before anyone can talk about it.”

I took a ferry to a small island I hadn't been to in years. After a walk through the village, I burned incense at a temple dedicated to the water goddess and then sat at the beach. High above the sea, airplanes crossed the autumn sky, their silver shapes pointing towards an unknown destination.

I know it’s not going to hold, but it feels significant that 50% of the top-grossing films so far this year are not franchise entries.

I'm working with someone who addresses me as 'hen' and I really like it.

Wildly passive aggressive email from a company with whom I did not, in fact, create an account. Who thinks this tone is a good idea?

Here's last year's story for Halloween, which I'm pleased to say still often shows up polluting AI search results, despite clearly being labelled as fiction. precastreinforced.co.uk/2025/10/30/f...

“Liminal (adj.): An empty corridor. Also an empty school, car park or swimming pool. GNoH has made the case that liminal horror really lives in the back of the shop. In most reviews it now means any space with strip lights and no people in it, which covers a fair bit of Scotland on a Sunday night.”

Do you dig graves?

And off it goes, Victoria Stewart’s Personal Anthology, dark, oily, spinach green, rattling and clashing through the shingle, darkened and wizened by experience and bitterness, exclaiming at that glimpse of a house in a sheath of startling flowers, slipping again into a feverish dream…

There's an Edward VIII round the corner from my parents. Only a single posting slot bit it does have a jolly crocheted topper.

Goodnight from The Devil’s Bread pub, where all the evening’s mutterings seem centred on Joe Wood’s sudden and unsettling disappearance from the village. Goodnight from Dorothy Winward, worried that there are more than satellites watching from tonight’s sky. Goodnight from Hookland.

I’d been alerted that the Whistle prop was going to be on Antiques Roadshow but not which episode. I had hoped it would get more than 30 seconds. And fairly sure it’s worth more than £150. Will now try and see if I can make contact with the lady.

I should have done one more clarification.

Hilda Ogden's Barbara Cartland themed party from a 1973 episode of Coronation Street, written by Julian Roach. It says so much to me about Barbara's readers, and what they desired. Note the damp effect on the bedroom wall set.

London haunting

One of Rory's best and most characteristic stories.

Watched “Ellie and Natasha” with daughter (early 20s). Both enjoyed it a lot. However: Her: So… it’s like a bunch of reels on the telly? Me: Yes. We used to call them sketch shows. #comedy

The lyrics the toddler composes to her endless original songs are reflections of her little life, snippets of emotions and pastimes that matter to her most. Consider the following: "I love you, Mama and Dada/ You're my best friends/ Like and subscribe the channel"
