Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

Very interesting that the voters most incessant about "street disorder" downtown statistically do not live anywhere near downtown and, anecdotally, don't spend much time there either

On the council side, the Greens' Annette Reilly got the most votes in Kits, the centre of Downtown, Champlain Heights and False Creek Olympic Village, ABC candidates in the south of the city, and Sean Orr everywhere else. Again, turnout in the north of the city was the big difference.

This makes it extra annoying that so much of Spacing's Vancouver operation is in the hands if an architect who argues that building apartments is dangerous and scary

Dylan Reid@dylanreid.bsky.social

We're not legendary, but Spacing magazine was created in the living rooms of cheap shared apartments in downtown Toronto that don't really exist anymore, at least not in the concentration needed.

I hate this obsession with citizen control. Data centres can cause serious issues and are supportive of the worst, most fascist industries on the planet. Do the greens believe those issues go away if the public consents to building one? Just say you're going to regulate them for fucks sakes.

Good overview of the repeal of blanket rezoning without replacement policies in #yyc. I know I’m a broken record but this was an irresponsible move motivated by some of the loudest voices (sometimes even from within City Hall) rather than a just approach to housing. thewalrus.ca/rich-block-a...

The tribunal did find the pedestrian not at fault thankfully, but insane for the driver to even attempt to make the claim that a pedestrian caused themselves to get hit by a car for, in part, "not having lights"

Trump and ICE hate people and cities that don’t bend the knee to them. They want very badly to hurt them, kill them, destroy them. It might be triggering or worse to hear someone say “please don’t destroy your own city” when the bad guys are so clearly the ones trying to, but please don’t help them.

Professional dipshits have been analyzing wokeness for more than a decade now and still all they can come up with is: white guys are non-woke, women-of-colour are woke

@seanorr.bsky.social please correct me if I am wrong but I don't think there is anything legal or procedural preventing Vancouver City Council from completely shutting down all official use of x in whatever time it takes to introduce a motion.

Gender studies is increasingly becoming the most important university major. I like to think I have a grasp in society but I cannot fathom how this cane to exist. Please someone with specialized knowledge get on this

My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area. (15 in Manhattan btw)

Michael Hobbes@michaelhobbes.bsky.social

There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.

Sometimes people raise their eyebrows at me when I say NIMBYs just cynically make up problems to throw whatever wrenches they can into housing development, but that is honestly the most charitable reading of guys like this. The other only other option is that he is incredibly stupid

Guy at public hearing right now opposes social housing because it might shadow solar panels and destroy our power grid. Can't make this up
