There is never a bad time to show gratitude for what we are blessed with. I am grateful for health, my job/career, my loved ones and #sqlfamily. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I don't think i know the Redmond company any more. With so many people who stood for it gone. It was once my goal to work for them and I took great pride in what they did. As a company, for tech culture. No more, its all gone. Like many things we believe are gone. Pfft. Just gone.

Everything is awful so why not? Dessert mode ACTIVATE: Best pie: pecan Best ice cream: gelato, for me. Any, but tasted a honeycomb flavored that could be the best Best donut: Not a fan Best bar: lemon Best cake: xmas fruitcake Best other: taste 'Pradaman' if you are in India. Nothing like it.

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale takes place in 1930 and is much better than the last Downton movie. Creator Julian Fellowes cuts back on the convoluted plotting and zeroes in on emotional dynamics.

I've posted two blogs on testing methods of reducing page latch contention. I set up some tables for testing here (www.sqljared.com/blog/page-la...), then tested several approaches and provided results here (www.sqljared.com/blog/page-la...). #sqlfamily #sqlblog

Posting AI slop to reddit/linkedin/here != blogging. Learn shit, write shit, share shit. Have a point of view. We can tell you used AI to crap something out. It just makes me want to unfollow/downvote/ignore you.

Tech leaders think AI is smarter than it is because it sounds exactly like what they think is smart, while to everyone else, it sounds exactly like a tech leader trying to look smart.

This made so deeply sad. It looks disrespect and callousness have become a sort of a casual norm, literally everywhere. I hope these times will pass.

Being laid off at Microsoft has been like finding out that someone you admire is rude to wait staff. There's really no walking back that callousness and disrespect. I know it's hard - I *know* - but those still there should reflect deeply on what you are associating yourself with.

Happy Juneteenth! May we never take freedom for granted.

Harriet Tubman #quilt by my Mom, Vera P. Hall, who makes quilts celebrating Black people who fought for their own freedom. This seems to be the crowd favorite of the “We Didn’t Wait for Freedom” series. Happy #Juneteenth #quilting
