Relocating outside the U.S. to wait out my husband’s 10 year immigration bar to reentry was the hardest decision, esp bc we’re caregivers to my elderly parents. In order to move, I had to get them on board bc there i couldn’t just abandon them when they need us most. It was terrifying for them.1/

In the world of none of it matters since people are starving and dying everyday….But does anyone else think it’s unfair that the Wordle bot gets to win by a fraction of a difference (like 3.8) whereas us mere mortals can only win with round numbers (4)? wtf? How does it even win on part of a word?

THIS👇 what is it going to take to stop this madman? Is the whole world just gonna roll over and let him take whatever countries he wants? 😡😡😡😡

THE FUCKER IS GOING TO OCCUPY GREENLAND NEXT! HE MUST BE STOPPED!!! CONGRESS, WTF?

Never knew abt 10 years in jail for ignoring a deportation order. We consulted over a dozen immigration lawyers + NO ONE mentioned this, even if rarely used! Immigration lawyers should have an ethical obligation to tell you facts like this. Instead they take your money + fill you with false hope. 😡

No one will see this but I have to say it out loud: Bc of inhumane immigration laws, my then-undocumented husband and I fled the U.S. two years ago just to live a normal life together without fear. We relocated to Curacao, which finally feels like home. We live it! Freedom is a great thing. But….

…then, in October, things started to heat up w/ US bombing innocent fisherman and the whole Venezuela tension felt too close for comfort. We were afraid to get stuck near a war zone! So we fled the region to wait it out + watch how things unfold from afar. But how long can we wait? So we decided to…

return to Curacao this week. BUT let me say: If things get worse w/ Venezuela + we have to flee the region again —bc of a U.S.-caused problem —I’m gonna lose my shit. How many times is the US going to f*ck up my life? All I want is to live in peace with my husband! Is that too much to ask? End rant.

We lived like this for years, planning “what ifs” - what if he gets detained? What if he suddenly can’t return to our home for 10 years? What happens to my elderly parents if we have to relocate? Anxiety was off the rails.

Now that kids are back in school, mixed-status families have to prepare for the worst: what if ICE arrests dad or mom while the kids are at school? What happens if children arrive home and no one is there? Deportation affects all of us, not just immigrants. @npr.org www.npr.org/transcripts/...

Marrying a US citizen, contrary to popular belief, does not automatically give you citizenship! Please watch and share this video from American Families United who is working to create a pathway to keep families together.

And yet, he’s still hopeful: “To all of the families who have also suffered separations or who live under the constant threat of being separated,” he said, “I want to tell you that even though this injustice is hurting us hard, we must not lose hope.”

I think it’s high time we take back the national narrative. For centuries Americans of all races, genders, religions, and abilities have worked to create a more perfect union, and we should shout from the rooftops that WE are America. Not these idiot white supremacist authoritarians.

Hate it when people call out ICE abuse but still say “illegals.” My husband was a PERSON without papers. He was an undocumented PERSON. No one’s existence is illegal. “Illegals” is dehumanizing and says they don’t belong. It’s othering. Words matter.

Here’s a glimpse of the types of post to warn of ICE’s presence in the area. Just horrifying. More like Nazi Germany than the land of the free! They’re literally being hunted and kidnapped. I am ashamed to be associated with America. 😭 😡

I’m shocked at how often I hear Russian propaganda repeated in Curacao. 99.9% of the time it’s a non-American (usually Dutch, not Curacaoan) spewing B.S. + they get defensive when I correct their facts. Reading about spread of disinfo is so different than hearing it out loud, let me tell you. 🤦‍♀️ 😮

Tip to politicians and pundits: When your only recourse is to say “vote them out,” it doesn’t make me feel better. Look at what’s happened in just 6 months. Am I supposed to feel relieved that we have to wait another year and a half? 🙈

Musk is an immigrant. Melania is an immigrant. Trump’s first wife—an immigrant. All his kids except Tiffany are 1st generation kids. Bezos’s wife—an immigrant. Zuckerberg’s in-laws—immigrants. JD Vance’s in-law immigrants. Remind the public every day!

Even at the time of the election, I thought something was wrong with these results. Good for my neighboring county that they’re demanding a recount, even just for the record.

Did Rockland County, N.Y.’s incorrect vote total occur nationwide? Kamala Harris received 0 votes. Hundreds of ballots for Kirsten Gillibrand showed 0 votes for president. Voters have filed sworn affidavits stating they voted for Harris but their selections were apparently not registered. Newsweek.

They walk more. They see live music. They try new restaurants. My dad picked up the uke again. I can’t express how relieved I feel. The U.S. immigration system tried to rip apart my family by putting me in an awful position of either living in fear forever.. or 4/

GTFO for 10 years and then apply to bring my husband home legally. We couldn’t continue to live in fear of ICE. But I couldn’t just pickup and leave my parents to live abroad. Well, FU to America’s immigration system! We are better off now. Happy, healthy… and together. In paradise, no less! 🌴👏👏👏

It was hard to move in our 50s but for them to move at 85 and 90 years old? I felt awful. They had been in their house for 60 years! It was hard at first. But look at them now! They are loving island life. I actually think our f*ed up immigration problems have renewed them. Now they swim everyday…3/

Focus people. Trump has the levers of power. The only people who can take them away from him are elected Republicans. And we must focus on that. Every single R in the house and Senate should be asked why they are not stopping him. They hold the power to impeach, convict, and remove

Jen Taub@jentaub.bsky.social

The Republicans in Congress could remove Donald Trump any minute they wanted to. Blame them. Tell them to get rid of him. There is no daylight between the Republican Party and Donald Trump.

I won’t share all the horrific immigration stories because there are too many (way worse than my own!). But this!! OMG 😢
