🌔 Oct 19, 2026: Moon in Capricornus, about 397,500 km away and 61% lit. Through a telescope, Plato, Tycho and Clavius look crisp along the shadow line. Copernicus sits right at the edge, waiting for its sunrise. Handheld, Sony A7RV + 70-200mm f/4 + 2x TC. #Moonphase

Last night, before the clouds ruined the fun…, I got to test the new #SeestarS50Pro 🔭. Only 6 minutes on the Veil Nebula... Pretty stunning result, right?

Saturn from last night. Now that it's passed opposition, the disk shadow on the rings is just beginning to show at left, as is the ring shadow on the disk, visible as a thin line just above the rings 🔭

This is good news! I can't wait for the first science images from Roman (though they're so damn big I'm not sure how I'll peruse them). I wrote about this last month, too. badastronomy.beehiiv.com/p/nancy-grac...

badastronomy.beehiiv.comNancy Grace Roman Space Telescope’s very first image released! The "first light" shot is weird but hints at amazing things to come. Plus: Mercury has more shrinkage than thought

“All of Roman’s sweeping surveys will rely on the Wide Field Instrument. Many of the mission’s primary goals, like studying dark matter and dark energy, wouldn’t be possible without it, so it’s both exciting and a huge relief to see that it’s working well!” #NASARoman 🔭

One of the things that I love about research is the bringing people smart talented people together and then watching how everyone's skill sets bring us to some cool new understanding of the Solar System

4 still photos of the beautiful #aurora display on Sat 10 Oct '26 from North #Oxfordshire, UK. The brightest part was between 7:35pm-8:45pm. I took 700+ photos for the timelapse I shared earlier so it was hard to pick 4! #SonyA7iii + Samyang 14mm lens #AuroraBorealis

Andromeda Galaxy (M31) again. This time I used more spacer rings on my focal reducer to get a slightly faster exposure. Better than yesterday at least, right? #astrophotography #astronomy

i was fortunate enough to profile Margaret Hamilton in 2019. A really kind and curious person. This was my favorite story she told me:

First go at processing last night's Saturn data. 8 x 3min videos, stacked in Autostakkert, derotated in Winjupos and processed in Astrosurface. 🔭

Good to be back looking at planets after a break - #Saturn is nicely placed around midnight and its rings are beginning to open out once more. #EAA #astronomy #planets #astrophotography

A few hours last night to capture The Triangulum Galaxy, also catalogued as Messier 33 (M33). A stunning face-on spiral galaxy located approximately 2.73 to 3 million light-years from Earth. #astronomy #astrophotography

Full #Moon & #astrophotography don't make a good mix, except on star clusters or emission nebulae...so here goes for the Persei double cluster (NGC884 & NGC869) and the Horse Head #nebula (IC434) in H-alpha. Images shot yesterday. Aren't those cute 😊? What do you see @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social ?

It’s international observe the Moon day. If your skies are clear, the one day past first quarter Moon will be great viewing. Images taken here last night with a little 50mm F10.8 refractor and an iPhone 15 Pro handheld #Moon #astronomy #astrophotography
