Eighty-one years ago, at 08:15 on 6 August 1945, the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. On the same day—around nine weeks after the capitulation of Nazi Germany—this timetable was published. Berlin was operating on Moscow Time (UTC+3), two hours ahead of British Summer Time.

At what point do we stop pretending our newspapers are ‘news’ and start calling them what they are… Promotional pamphlets for the billionaires who own them and the agendas they’re selling.

Have you been to that station? The design feels dated, but the way down to the trains isn't as bad/long as on the Elizabeth line. My photos: May 2025.

The English Teahouse and English Garden were opened on 29 March 1952 British Foreign Minister Sir Anthony Eden, later PM. On 27 May 1965, Queen Elizabeth II planted an oak tree from Windsor Great Park at the site. In June 2025, the Teahouse was destroyed by fire. Plans are in place to rebuild it.

The Löwenbrücke in Tiergarten is a 17.3-metre-long and approx two-metre-wide pedestrian suspension bridge and was built in 1838 based on designs by Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse and Christian Friedrich Tieck as a replica of the Lion Bridge in Saint Petersburg and was Berlin's first suspension bridge.

The Löwenbrücke in Tiergarten was closed 2008. Rebuilt to the 1838 model (the lions are original), replacing the post-war 1950s version: bronze lions, pale yellow metal & wood lattice, lengthwise planks. 7/2022–6/2025; reopened 3 July.

Former West German capital Bonn 🇩🇪 will be the new home of a considerable share of 🇺🇳 UN Development Programme posts. Around 300 UNDP staff will relocate from New York to Bonn over the next 2 years. With this, the overall footprint of UNDP in Bonn will exceed 400 positions.

Vaccines are safe and effective. Autism isn't caused by vaccines, and autistic people and their families deserve our support. When you want information, ask your doctor. It's more important than ever for all of us to speak plainly, truthfully, and directly about public health.

A reminder: Asylum seekers are in hotels because of a huge application backlog that the gov't must work through. Robert Jenrick - now, bursting with creative solutions - processed applications slowly ***on purpose*** as a deterrent. Here he is, as Immigration Minister two years ago, saying so. ~AA
