This article touches on something I have been thinking about - the democratization of quant psych. As someone trained in clinical psych, doing a quant project on my own seemed impossible.

But recently I developed an idea based on an analysis I did - creating a power analysis method for Bradley-Terry models. Using Claude I was able to outline a method, procedure, and simulation study for this gap. Not sure I will have time to actually do it, but for the first time it seemed feasible.

I think I'd benefit seeing the Contributor Role Taxonomy (CRediT) mapped to systematic review methods. Does this already exist and I'm just not seeing it??

I received my PhD in clinical psychology in 2011, it wasn't until 2019 that it dawned on me that I might have seasonal depression (doh!). Medications changed my life and some earlier therapy surely helped as well. Men - please please please ask for help, we can do this!

In the aftermath of Lane Johnson retiring and citing his mental health, I felt it was important to open up about my own struggles in hopes of shining a light for others to know it is okay to seek the counseling and help you may need to fight off your own demons. You aren’t alone.

New paper! Despite qualitative researchers claiming that generalizability is not a goal, their published work does indeed contain generalizable claims. We document this and provide recommendations for how all researchers can better calibrate their generalizability claims. doi.org/10.1177/2515...

We did a qual study on betrayal and frustrating experiences that service members experienced on active duty. We were surprised how often complaints about other service members hair/uniform violations came up. Not sure if there is any literature on this, but an interesting data point.

I made a mistake. And because of that mistake, I no longer have confidence that results that I reported in several research papers are an accurate reflection of replication rates. 1/

@joshuagrubbsphd.com can probably educate folks.

I don't think that enough people realize how big of an issue sports gambling (including so-called "predictions markets") are on college campuses. Take a few minutes and read through this family's challenge with gambling addictions that led to stopping out of college and a mountain of debt.

This is so embarrassing for our country.

Nothing in my experimental-cognitive/math-psych background could have prepared me for the unique horror of large-scale routinely-collected medical and educational data

Claude and I kicked around some ideas, introducing 'The Ledger'. Just a rough draft, but a starting point of an idea? osf.io/rmnyj/wiki/home/

I like this idea! The thought I’ve often had is that we don’t need more papers to fill in all the little gaps, but we do need some formal Mechanism to get the data/results out there. Incentives would remain an issue, but having an outlet would help in addressing that.

This got me thinking. There should be 'Short Story Clubs' like book clubs but for short stories. They could meet weekly if you wanted given the length of the pieces. You could go thematically or work your way through an anthology, etc. Does this exist?

The bad news is that I had to call 911 (wasn't a heartattack!), but the good news is that I got to have a nice chat with one paramedic about Jung's collective unconscious and the other one complimented our house. So, better than my average Wednesday!

Post is back live! Please share with interested colleagues/friends/group chat members.

A package that uses AI to give you feedback on your R code? The fun part is you can pick the critique style: passive aggressive, mean girl, drill sergeant, a disappointed parent, etc.

Pretty sure this is a local graffiti artist's tag, but it *is* kind of calling out for an #rstats package.

Exciting day. My set-theoretic reconceptualization of the DSM (w/ MDD, GAD, and PTSD as empirical examples) is out today in JPCS, along with four invited commentaries and my response. I'm biased, but I recommend all six papers. I was really jazzed by all four commentaries. 1/25

This reminds me of a friend of mine who started using fake words around his wife with some regularity. Inevitably, she used one of them in their regular Scrabble games and he challenged it for being a fake word. Reader, he long conned her for Scrabble wins.

Claude added the word ‘claudication’ to a table for me and I briefly thought it was an invented word that meant ‘Claude made something up’ (i.e. ‘this is a claudication’), but it actually means cramping leg pain.

I see we are doing GRE as an equity issue again. Great, let's talk equity. Which students can afford this? Which students can afford to work in a lab for free? Which student have summers for stats classes and research institutes? Now, which students would be overlooked but for the GRE?

Absolutely loving everything about the replies in this thread. I am not a dad, but I recently worked with my niece on getting her more comfortable on her bike and it is easily one of my top life experiences. More girls on bikes, more girls in sports!

We took the training wheels off my daughter’s bike tonight She was pretty nervous, and I was there by her side the entire time, holding the handle bars and making sure she didn’t fall. I tried to pull back she panicked a couple of times. Any experienced Dads have tips to help her build confidence?
