If we're not free to think for ourselves, to challenge ideas, ideologies, religion, or to choose/change our own beliefs, then we are not free at all. Freedom of religion or belief sits at the very heart of who we are as human beings. #InternationalFreedomofReligionorBeliefDay

🚨 BREAKING: The Isle of Man’s Assisted Dying Bill has been granted Royal Assent more than 18 months after Tynwald, the island’s parliament, passed it. This is a historic day for the Isle of Man, and above all for the terminally ill people and families who campaigned for so long to see it.

50,000 couples a year would choose a legal humanist wedding in England and Wales. Our trained and accredited celebrants are ready. The Government needs to make it legal.

Humanist weddings have transformed how people marry in Scotland and Northern Ireland, by allowing non-religious couples to have meaningful ceremonies true to their beliefs. Couples in Yorkshire have waited long enough for the same right.

Archaic religious rules have no place in our democracy, and we're glad to see the PM start addressing that. But what can't be ignored is this: 26 bishops from one denomination of one religion still have the automatic right to sit, speak, and vote in our Parliament. Their removal is well overdue.

Rather than allowing humanists to contribute to Radio 4's Thought for the Day, the BBC's current format requires all speakers to frame political and current affairs commentary through a religious or scriptural lens. Yet half of the UK is non-religious so why not let us speak?

By putting forward the same Bill again, Lauren Edwards MP is giving the House of Lords additional time and a second chance to deal effectively with the Bill. The Bill, which has already received an unprecedented amount of scrutiny, should go through every stage again. humanists.uk/2026/07/16/l...

Breaking news! France has just legalised assisted dying - 291 votes for, 241 against France has overwhelmingly voted for compassion today, legalising assisted dying only days after Jersey’s law passed its final step.

Surrey County Council was right to listen to parents and the wider community after its original plan to merge Merrow Junior School into a Church of England faith school met such strong opposition.

@humanists.uk check out the latest bs video & short, from #BFBS youtube channel (british forces broadcasting service) about young people in the military & faith. Already debunked by “No Religion”; The Army’s Inclusivity Blind-spot – 2021 Update A report by Lt Col (Retd) L T Quinn MBE, Oct 2021 .

@humanists.uk humanist marriage can be legal by the home secretary signing a bit of paper, taking two seconds. Maybe a good post to do would be a mock up of what that 📄 page would look like with the headline 'expedite humanist marriage, it only takes 1 signature' or it only takes 2 seconds to sign

Don't say we never give you anything, people! 😉 Here's a short clip from September last year where in our "The Labour Government: So Far, So Sh*t" series, Part 2 correctly predicted EXACTLY when Starmer would throw in the towel (full episode link in comments).

Thank you Lauren, for bringing back the Bill to offer choice and compassion to terminally ill people and their loved ones. MPs have previously backed this Bill, which was undemocratically blocked by a small minority of peers in the House of Lords. @laurenedwardsmp.bsky.social

Lauren Edwards MP has announced she will bring back the Assisted Dying Bill. There’s already a lot of misinformation about what the Bill does, what happened in the Lords, and how the Parliament Act works. Here’s a simple guide. 🧵

Keir Starmer has said he is hopeful a ban on social media for under-16s will come into effect by spring 2027 The PM said the Australia-style ban is "not something I do lightly" and isn't "cost-free", however he is "not prepared to compromise on the safety and happiness of our children"

And finally the writer of the piece @AlisonHoltBBC - terf . Which explains the phrasing. Would you be interested in the 50+ suicides since gender affirming care for young people was withdrawn, Alison? Quite important. It’ll be a big story one day. No? Not interested?

This is how @bbcnews rewrite a story about the NHS forcibly detransitioning trans kids . Full of terf phrases. The BBC has no interest in the 50+ deaths since puberty blockers and hrt were withdrawn - or Wes Streeting’s conversion therapy. Guessing the parent group mentioned is religious.

Update: Young people & families today received shocking & transphobic letters from NHS. These letters tell people that endocrine care (blockers / HRT) is being fully withdrawn in 7 weeks time (July 31st). Forced medical detransition. This country is a danger to trans children & young people.

Schools should be inclusive of all pupils regardless of their faith or belief, and provide a balanced education that supports them to think critically and make their own choices about religion and belief. They should not be used to bolster church numbers or convert children to a particular faith.
