how it's gone

Feel like a stuck record saying it but i need to be specifically invited to a thing or a gathering or even to sit with ppl at a furmeet otherwise I stay away, and so often when I say this people just tell me not to worry and come along to the thing anyway, and I'm so tired of the ramifications

You know actually getting involved in local politics has been one of the best things I've done in a long time but also some parts of it make me want to dig a hole and never come out of it. It may surprise you to learn given, you know, my socials, that the biggest of these is political social media.

A part of this is the time commitment, a part of it is the fact it's all platforms I don't wanna be on in the first place, and a part of it is kind of local politics as a domain involves a lot of proximal community involvement that doesn't really come naturally to me.

During the brazilian elections we learned one obvious but important tactic to defeat the far right on the Internet and I think everyone should know it: IGNORE THEM! DON'T ENGAGE WITH THEIR CONTENT! DON'T MAKE CONTENT REACTING TO THEM! DON'T HATE QRT! LET THEM ALONE IN THEIR BUBBLE!

Try this. The engine is possessed, you do not control it, it tolerates you for its own devices. Rolling along at walking pace, you can jump off if you see something interesting but make it quick. The train is safety, you are under its protection, the further you get from it the harder things get.

Oh the frosty apocalypse survival game is just zombies again. Fucking yawn

Perhaps there are monsters out there, maybe the game just fucks with you, maybe it gets real weird. Maybe do a task with a duration like lockpicking or something, you spent an item for it, and just as you start you hear the loco kick up to notch 8. Time to make DECISIONS.

You don't need zombies to generate tension and action, you can just make the environment inhospitable, you have so many tools to mess with the player, you can get creative with monsters. Take this idea, anyone reading this can have it for free, stop making zombieslop.

Brilliant, back to the objectively worse bullshit version of time. I like the extra hour in bed but it's not worth stealing light from evening people to give it to morning people who already structured all of society around themselves.

"A.i." is a tool of extraction, not liberation. These fucking products are designed to fuck you over, not help you.

You asked AI for the cheapest flight. It dug through your emails, decided you could afford more, and suggested a ticket costing $100–$200 extra. Lindsay Owens explains ⬇️

I have been given the wrong QR code for something and now I have to reprint some pages and my fucking printer chooses NOW to start fucking around being an obstinate cunt. Honestly, just disband Hewlett Packard.

Really annoyingly Proton immediately stumbles for me (not entirely but like, significantly degraded usefulness). I can password protect a link to a file but I can't enforce password protected encryption on downloaded versions of the file. All downloads are unprotected.

I can of course, maintain original format, forego collaborative editing, and treat it like Dropbox. This is pretty lame though and the "Open in Proton Sheets" button that makes a copy you can download unencrypted is still right there.

It's been a long time coming for security/privacy reasons but the push really was BDS. We're banging the BDS drum whenever someone orders a coke but all our documents are in Google and Microsoft and all our chats are in Meta.

There's an entire section in our cybersecurity box-ticker dedicated to not doing stupid shit with AI and I'm just like "mate, I avoid that risk with one weird trick"

If you ever suggest governments should work to move off Windows you'll be met with a laundry list of reasons why not. Fun fact, if you're in the UK your council might have pledged to boycott a list of businesses that support Israel, Microsoft is on the list.
