@robzacny.bsky.social I've had three great life-moments about sampling: growing up on Hornsby then hearing "Changes" for the first time, growing up on "Let's Go" by Trick Daddy then hearing "Crazy Train" for the first time, and the betrayal of learning the Homeworld theme is just Adagio for Strings.

Glad to know there's someone else out there who still associates that piano riff with the original, even knowing how well Tupac uses it in a truly great song.

Today marks Nakba Day, an annual day of remembrance to commemorate the expulsion of more than 700,000 Palestinians between 1947 and 1949 during the creation of the State of Israel and the year that followed.   Inea is a New Yorker and a Nakba survivor. She shared her story with us.

@kayin.moe Moonlight Duelists was amazing, thank you for making another game that's going to stick with me for years. Possibly the first game that's made me wake up before 6am, realize a thing it reminded me of, and convince me to make a shitpost. (Censored because I'm a coward on main)

@morecivilized.bsky.social If it's helpful -- Fett does get a bit of a Yes This Is Our King period in the EU that stuck, at least for me. Karen Traviss did some Mandalorian-focused books in the post-New Jedi Order era, with Fett getting some good writing. Love the revisiting of the original films!

Oh -- at a MTG draft tournament. And it made me miss the last bus back to campus so I went to the nearby movie theater and fell asleep watching Employee of the Month, I think it was called.

I think Kiki's Delivery Service and Hunter x Hunter might have parallels in ways that make me appreciate them more? Spoilers for both in thread.

... and drew the comparison to the end of Kiki, with her still unable to understand Jiji, even though she got her magic back and Jiji still likes her. (Apparently Miyazaki says this is because she moved beyond childhood, but my read is that it's something that didn't come back post-burnout.)

I was listening to Cristina Vee's cover of DEPARTURE (psa she's the English voice of Killua) and thought about the end, with Killua and Gon on good terms but with something profound and joyous being DONE -- that Killua had to draw boundaries instead of trusting Gon with his whole life and heart...

Rolled credits on Hollow Knight (original). Partway through, I committed to beating it without checking any guides or (external) maps. Still not sure if that was the right call, probably added 8 hours of wandering around frustrated, but it made it very rewarding each time I figured something out.

And the combat... I often start flailing in games when I get overwhelmed, like in fighting games. Even AC6 had a lot of that for me. But here, they trained me to stay precise and intentional in almost all situations.

I can't damn it very much for that extra 8 hours, though, because the world is so dense that when I was wandering trying the wrong thing to progress, I was still doing interesting stuff and discovering things, and eventually discovering the right path.

I think the way I'd put it is -- if I could have chosen to spend that time differently, I would have. I would have put more clues on the map. But they made a conscious design choice not to do that, and they did the work that choice called for. Me wishing for a change was just a personal preference.

I also wish ill upon JK Rowling. I hope guilt shadows every moment of joy that she experiences, that she knows she is causing people pain in every moment she wishes for emotional security, and that she knows her conscience could be salved immediately by changing her choices.

I, too, wish ill upon JK Rowling. I wish for her to suffer mentally, emotionally, and physically as a direct consequence of all of the mental, emotional, and physical suffering that she, directly and personally, has inflicted upon the trans community. Fuck her and fuck everybody who agrees with her.

@friends-table.bsky.social I think I remember you guys talking about Space Jam recently? I stumbled across a thing -- while it's generally called MJ's "Secret Stuff", there IS a point in the movie where he says "You guys had the SPECIAL stuff inside of you all along." Loving the recent episodes!

You are up to date.
