Today marks Nakba Day, an annual day of remembrance to commemorate the expulsion of more than 700,000 Palestinians between 1947 and 1949 during the creation of the State of Israel and the year that followed.   Inea is a New Yorker and a Nakba survivor. She shared her story with us.

I definitely see many instances in the Koran referring to Israel as the ancestral home of the Jewish people, however I am having difficulty finding any reference whatsoever to the Palestinians. Can you please enlighten us all.

Hi, Zohran. Could you spread the word about the resistance fund of Valencian teachers on Spain fighting to defend public education against "trumpist" Valencian Government? And of course, a free Palestine!

1/ Nakba Day exposé. Folks need to see through the prism of ostracized Palestinians. We have only been inundated by the Israeli Jewish one-sided rhetoric. Disinformation has favored the emboldened. Israeli Jews no longer believe they have to manufacture reasons for us to despise Palestinian people.

2/ US was in collusion when diaspora Jews wanted 1948 repatriation to their ancestral homeland. The US found its MiddleEast ally, and coupled with Europeans who wanted all the Jews out of Europe, they facilitated Jews usurpation of Palestine Mandate, at said time British vacated that colonized area.

3/ Europe/UK/US sanctioned creation of the State of Israel, and recognized the Israeli Jews nomenclature. Israeli Jews set about ensuring dominion over MiddleEast region, and the usurpation of neighboring lands of Golan Heights-Syria, West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza & south Lebanon to Litani River.

This breaks my heart. How could we have been a party to such an atrocious act, especially after what we knew the Nazis had done. I never understood why they didn’t just give them half of Germany. They were the ones who tried to wipe them from the face of the Earth. NOT Palestine! 🥺😢

This I think is a huge point. You can probably make an interview video of a person expelled THIS WEEK by West Bank settlers or Lebanese invaders. Probably the same age as she was when she and her family were forced to run from that house with the big iron key.

It reminds me of the moment when talking with a Palestinian lady in Beirut who showed me the big iron key of her ancestral home in Jaffa. Palestinian people have suffered inmeasurable injustice and still do.

I'm sure you know this and are choosing to be an idiot, but Partition happened quite specifically as a result of the Muslim League's decision-- Nehru and Gandhi wanted a unified, secular India (with numerous setaside seats in Parliament--appropriately!)

Of course the negotiations of elites have little to do with the millions of ordinary people with no choice--Muslims and Hindus--who lost their homes, and in far too many cases lost their lives. You should be banned for spreading misinformation and making light of a catastrophic event.

For many people whose origins were shaped by Partition--regardless of the religion of their grandparents--this is a major reason for instinctive understanding and empathy for the Palestinian cause. You are, again, an idiot.

So many cultures. So many individual stories & remembrances that yet have similarities to each other & 'good ways to move us ALL forward'. I come fr a land where some think 'we work hard' is considered a 'culture'.🤦 EVERY cultural grp works hard. Working 'hard' isn't definitive as a 'culture'.

You know what's really messed up? How is American Jewish month celebrated During NAKBA MONTH? ITS KIND OF A SICKENING AWARENESS CELEBRATE SONEOBES HORRIBLE DISPLACEMENT DEATH STARVATION MEMORIES🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢MOVE IT TO ANOTHER MONTH ONE OF THE BORING MONTHS like AUGUST or SEPTEMBER OCTOBER

The Jews have carved out their state in Palestine. They have taken control of a region roughly corresponding to the area allotted to them under the U. N. General Assembly's partition plan of last Nov. 29. The Arabs in Palestine have been promised "deliverance" by the Arab countries…” May 2,1948

You must be insane to post that blather as if it explains trying to cover up multiple crimes against humanity with a series of unending atrocities.

Yeah! You are absolutely right, but MLK might have believed all their lies and sympathies with all they’ve went through all years of holocaust and sufferings just like black Americans. My Christian parents made me also believe that they are good people and chosen by God as in the Bible.

It’s a failed genocide of Jews, including Holocaust survivors. Israel won the war and a result +800,000 Jews were expelled from Arab states. Thousand of Jews were killed.

Also known as the day after Israeli Independence Day when the Arab states launched their multi-front war to destroy the Yishuv and encouraged the local Arab population to leave under the premise the war would be quick as the Jews would be eradicated.

Now you’re right. The Jordanian army invading Judea and Samaria and its resulting 20 year occupation of it never happened. The Egyptians didn’t invade Gaza and the Negev. The Syrians didn’t invade the Galilee. Kick rocks, moron.

A legend. I interviewed her once, decades ago, back in 2003. I knew nothing back then, but I was trying to learn, and someone suggested I talk to her. She went over all of this history with me—broke everything down, put it into perspective. She was so patient and kind

The truth of the crimes of an oppressive fascist supremacist Revisionist Zionist ethnostate, this is not Judaism but a separate political extremist ideology which has hijacked judaism to justify its ideology thus state. One state solution is possible but Israeli is not that solution, Real peace.

There are people that would say Mamdani has to be replaced, bc he won't call for the abolition of Israeli state. Need of full Republican US for these people apparently

Jews are the indigenous people of Israel. Having preserved their culture, language, customs and even genetic heritage in exile for 2000 years, they returned to expel the colonizers who settled their land and reestablish the country they were expelled from by previous conquering empires.

In response, the neighboring countries of Israel expelled their own Jewish inhabitants, numbering nearly a million. This today, most Israelis (75%) are native born, and most (60%) do not have any European heritage. It remains the only middle eastern country where Muslim citizens regularly vote.

Those people are the descendants of people who did exactly that. The point is they’re both there now, for various reasons. If you’re going to commemorate the Naqba, you might as well acknowledge that the people who were “forcefully expelled” were themselves the descendants of colonizers.

They're also the descendants of the people who were already living there before the Arab conquest- including Jews. Also, who cares that they are? I don't see you advocating for every non-100% native American in the Americas to be deported back to Western Europe.

Hey, quick quiz, according to the Old Testament and Torah, when the people of Israel arrived at its "promised land", was it empty and uninhabited? No one's ancestry entitles them to sole dominion of a land, and the actions of one's ancestors don't justify an ethnic cleansing.

Wow, imagine allllll the weak willed politicians that assisted in giving away that land. Wonder if any politicians around here could draw any lessons from the past and not, say, let a bunch of assholes give away land in a fucking auction in city they are mayor of.

This is actually Nakba III. Nakba I was in 1920 when France and Britain took control of the Middle East after the Ottoman collapse. Nakba II was that the Arabs didn’t kill all of the Jews when they tried to in Palestine/Israel in 1947/1948. Know your history.

“We know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the FREEDOM of the Palestinians.” 🍉🇵🇸🍉 - Nelson Mandela

Five Arab nations declared war on Israel the moment they declared independence, failed, and whined about it ever since. That’s what really happened.

We had Jeremy Corbyn over for an event here in Malmö Town, to help us organize social movement. He had to re-schedule and go back home and commemorate Nakba Day and resist bigots and racists back in London. Keep up the good fight! We'll try over here, in his spirit, and for the people of Palestine

I'm in West Virginia and I've never even had a passport. The oppression of Palestinian people disgusts me. Humanity doesn't have a race, religion, or zip code. Mayor Mamdani is showing the whole country how it's done

Well said! You don't need a passport to want people to be treated with decency and respect, or have sympathy and compassion. (West Virginia is beautiful. I had the opportunity to work there for a bit and have never forgotten it.)

Yeah, thanks, we know so little about these horrors, and they're ongoing, and have been ever since. May this posting of yours pierce the inexplicable silence around them so that the whole story can be known.

Shouts to the Zionist who recently explained to me that actually, the Nakba was “the Arabs” fault for not simply going along with the theft of their homes and leaving quietly. Wonder what he’d say to this woman.

No, what would he say to a Jewish Holocaust survivor that was told by the third reich it was their fault for not leaving the fatherland when they were told to. Hmm sounds oddly familiar right.
