spent like 4 hours debugging my mothers printer the other day only to find out the issue was fucking ONE DRIVE, which she was using without even knowing it. I will never forgive microsoft for the crimes against humanity they call "services" I'm buying an external drive and making the swap to linux.

I feel so beautifully unhinged in my tastes because my wishlist on steam right now is like 20 gritty depression games that play like Russian literature reads, 7 disco elysium inspired moody political crpgs and then out of nowhere just this

I fear I may be cooking with this game idea I had. I was inspired by how much maintenance being a hurdy gurdy owner involves. Guitar Hero x Casualties Unknown medical panel gameplay 😆 I'd also like to somehow make avoiding scam quality gurdies a part of the game, lots to think about.

I've been very stubborn about making my game 2D with sprites only but I swear every time I see the conquest reforged packs used in amazing minecraft or vintage story builds it makes me reconsider doing everything with voxels instead

There was a brief period of time where online games were designed as worlds for stories more than a game to complete. Online games with enforced roleplay standards across the entirety of the server by the game admins themselves. Games where you had humble serfs & bakers conspiring to coup a despot

The economy is trash, people are working more than they ever have and a lot of people turned to AI out of desperation and somehow found it good enough when it absolutely wasn't. What could possibly bring back any hope for dedicated enforced roleplaying worlds? Persistent long term gritty roleplay?

This is literally all I've wanted for over a decade and a half. It's what everything I do hopefully one day builds towards. Is it all for nothing? I regularly think about that, wondering if it's possible at all, if people will ever get their time back and desire to use it to play make-believe again

Roleplay has fluctuated heavily in its popularity. It went from being "the default" to amassing a core dedicated audience that is spread across the internet. Most roleplaying in online games is shallow without much grit or intrigue and such roleplay is confined to small groups and tabletops.

I was not alive for this time where games like Illarion online had hundreds of people participating in coups, or ultima online had swathes of people making every township and port alive with in character roleplay. Or when MUDs were not full of forgotten accounts connecting from abandoned servers.

Doing more mockups, plants this time. I had borrowed a bunch of plant assets to do tests with but am starting to replace them with my own that actually match the style. Hoping to do more actual gameplay soon instead of just art mockups but it's looking promising! #IndieGameDev #PixelArt #Isometric

Hey @deanhall.bsky.social I don't have a reddit account so I've not been able to participate in your AMAs re: brutal framework and most of my development experience is in Godot but have been working towards more general c# knowledge. Since we are both ss13-like maniacs I was curious if you'd give

my current project plans a review and maybe point me in the right direction, since my background is in art and not programming I'm not as confident and would be honoured to hear back from someone who's spent as long as I have obsessing over this from the technical instead of art side. Thanks!

Western audiences: Wow really? calling the villain 'maladictus blackheart'? Come ooon!!! be creative! Western audiences when they see a small rat girl who uses a sewing needle as a sword in a japanese media franchise: "Oh wow, I really do love [sewblade mousette] she's so cute!"

I fixed the draw sorting for nodes in multi-level tilemap layers in godot, so we can now truly have pseudo 3D worlds with a z axis. Eventually this would probably be better to do in 3D with everything being billboards but hey, it works! Now to get it moving! #IndieGameDev #Isometric #GodotEngine

More isometric pixel art terrain work. Trying to stick up the grass ramps as well but they need a lot more work to be closer to seamless. The rock variations all look really good though! #indiegamedev #pixelart #isometric

You can tell that the whole "AI is gonna destroy the planet!!!" thing is a fake excuse because if it were true we'd be repeatedly flooding the internet with information stating we can just take down the entire power grid, disable the satellites and render a rogue ai completely powerless within hours

I mean yeah obviously this would be terrible for us as a species, a lot of people would suffer or die or get lost abroad etc but like, preferable to the extinction of the species? I mean I'd say that and I'd probably be one of the victims because I need consistent medical care.

To clarify: I don't think AI is good. I don't think "AI" is "AI" as we know it, it's just a fancy pattern matching algorithm. The point is that all the media circus about ai destroying the world is probably a reducing returns inspired funding reach and nothing more

they're straight up banning people for hurting the poor widdle feelings of AI boosters. but meanwhile if you're in charge of the site its ok to call people who don't use AI "delusional liars" so that's cool ps: quoted post said the account(s) got unbanned in a reply but they're still gone for me

Just saw my first instance of an account getting nuked by mods over nothing in realtime, @dpad.fm got ethered because an account associated with it hates GenAI shit

A little bit more progress on learning procedural world/terrain generation. Figured out how to distribute tiles to surface cells and utilise a little bit of 3D noise to create overhangs. It's still very rudimentary but I'm having fun regardless. #procgen #indiegamedev #godotengine

Decided that the tiles should be half height from before, started working on slabs and slopes. Still very WIP and messy but I think it looks promising? When I finish tweaking all the slopes for all nature tiles I'll throw them into some terrain gen and test them! #pixelart #isometric #indiedev

I've done more research and tried more world generation and have come to the conclusion that there's too many issues with having isometric terrain like this Either each layer is too tall and z level transitions are abrupt and jarring and nature slopes are too many tiles, or too short and 1/5🧵

yeah idk long shot I guess but if anybody else has ideas for solutions to this problem I'd love to hear them because I'm stuck and have not even the slightest idea how to resolve the issues without picking a compromise that kind of ruins the feel for me

same level interactions too difficult to read for the player. Either you fake the 2D look in 3D (which requires way more work than doing it in 2D or just picking a different art style) or you choose a compromise. Flat terrain + building levels, hard to read terrain, or climb every layer. 4/5 🧵

So I'm really not sure where to go from here. I think this look works well for games like WitchBrook, where the levels are hand authored, but for an editable at runtime game like I wanted to make, I'm sort of at an impasse and I'm not sure there's a good solution for me, leaving the project hanging

telling what height a hole in the terrain is becomes remarkably difficult to read for the player. It's becoming increasingly clear why games like project zomboid have a flat terrain layer and multiple z layers for buildings, basements and caves 2/5 🧵

or why games like space station 13 and space station 14 are either completely top down overhead views with nebulous depth, or have very slight depth but squat characters as tall as they are wide The more even width/height the layers are, the less jarring the transition without making 3/5 🧵

true 2D isometric multi z-level terrain generation in Godot with tall-wall sprites modulated based on their height for visual clarity. Inspired by Space Station 13 multi-z #GodotEngine #Isometric2D #procgen

Fun side project in the works Making a nerdy gurdy cobol. I've never done any wood working before much less making an instrument, especially as complicated as a hurdy gurdy. Gotta redo the board the crank goes through tomorrow, misaligned it slightly and don't want to fix it at midnight.

Well, it finally happened! After 9 years of Unity dominance, Godot was the most used game engine for GMTK Game Jam 2026 submissions. 🤖 Godot - 47% 🎮 Unity - 34% 🛠️GameMaker - 5% 🚀 Unreal Engine - 3% ✨ Other - 11%

Stop Killing Games is a thing that sounds positive in theory, but the lack of an actual hierarchy beyond a few talking head YouTubers and a Discord full of scene drama, paired with a hazy manifesto influenced by petty grievances, has basically doomed it to be co-opted by bad actors ad nauseam.

Was at the hardware store with my mother and her partner today buying tools because I'm building a hurdy gurdy and every time I asked the staff questions they kept looking at my mum's boyfriend like no actually those are for me, the scrawny chick, yep I'm buying the tools actually please look at me

Man, the Amazing Digital Circus was really something. I've cried like 5 times over the finale, the way it parallels what happened to my family after the death of my dad. Being able to relate on some level to what gooseworx went through and all has really made this something intense and raw for me.

Looks like an edgy dork version of 3D movie glasses. Look at the arms on that thing they're almost thicker than the frames lmao. I love his go to example is "You can drive with these on" Great, a text & drive device. Your wife won't know you're reading a doujin until you crash and kill your kids

Totally dude. Looks super normal and not weird at all 👍

No really, what else does he mean by "bring a private screen on the road with you" he was totally insinuating you can watch/read smut while driving. The new technological revolution is horny at the expense of safety. AI, smart glasses, it's all just "lets be unethically horny" and I can't unsee it

To anybody working in community management especially in #Discord servers: There's a new scam I have been calling the "server unban phishing scam" and it is a social engineering attack that insidiously targets someone's reputation and uses unaware community managers as a participant. Read & share:

Making gridmaps for a new #GodotEngine gamedev project today. This is my first time attempting it but Johnny BlackWinter's youtube series (which he repeatedly clarifies is not a tutorial) was really helpful in getting me started. ^^
