I am consiering retraining as a secondary maths teacher. Have any other primary teachers made the same transition? I am aware of the NCETM route but wanted to know how realistic it is. RTs appreciated, especially if have a network involved in teaching.

Such good questions! I made this based off a similar GCSE question a while back 😊

First #MathsConf for me in AGES - looking forward to seeing everyone again!

A sequence of tasks leading up to finding the HCF of two numbers from their prime factorisations. Lots of work on finding factors given a prime factorisation before looking for common factors of two numbers. I chose not to use Venn diagrams and allowed the students to reason their way through it.

In #MathsToday, Year 10 did some averages with fractions: interwovenmaths.com/averages-wit... This was one of the original Interwoven Maths tasks when the site launched, and I still love the different fraction skills it requires, e.g. finding the midpoint of two fractions in the third column.

interwovenmaths.comAverages with Fractions | Interwoven MathsAverages practice finding mean, median and range for fractional data, with answers in simplest form.

#Mathstoday First time using Ai today to help get questions (I'm reasonably anti Ai) Gave the Ai 7 questions of what I was looking for and it did manage to create some ok stuff. Couldn't find questions on the topic from actual humans (which I would have preferred)

Is anyone I know going to #BCME10 in a couple of weeks? Or anyone I don't know but might like to change that, I guess? #MathsToday #Maths #Teaching #Learning

would love a better image than this but I only blue sky on my phone will blog it at some point key here is link between function machine, algebra tiles representation and abstract written algebra notation previous to this we either exchange the x tile for 5 or we replace the x on the tile with 5

A few weeks ago, I posted a blog about following up worked examples by asking "What would happen to the answer if I changed the question slightly?" Here's another example of this from the blog. wp.me/p9t8DE-s8 #Mathschat #MTBoS #iTeachMaths #Maths

the flexibility of the algebra tiles is that they can be used in multiple different algebraic ways. If youre not keen on seeing the negative representation in the area model that is not a problem

I was thinking about #MathsConf the other day, and in particular pondering what I would run a workshop on if I did another one. I've alighted on the following title: Teaching from a blank page (or, how to ditch your PowerPoint)

#Mathstoday Used this NCETM task today for finding the area of triangles. Students have to measure the base and height. The original sheet doesn't have the heights drawn on but for my group they needed that scaffolding. They need a bit more time in the next lesson but I'm happy how it went.

PM Targets? Sorted. 1. Support SLT with backward-faded same-difficulty rich tasks during detentions. 2. Support the school nurse to deliver ofsted-ready formula triangles at lunchtimes. 3. Increase the efficacy of increasingly-difficult real-life generative learning with KS5. mathsbot.com/thing
