In #MathsToday, Year 13 did a new Mathematical Gettier Question linking to Differential Equations (and then we started looking at Integrating Factors).
In #MathsToday, I did some Mathematical Gettier Questions with Y8 and Y13. Mathematical Gettier Questions are tasks that explore how incorrect methods sometimes give correct answers. Explained in more detail here: interwovenmaths.com/mathematical... What ideas can you think of for similar tasks?

UPDATE: I've just added a pen overlay tool to the Algebra Tiles. It needs a bit of tweaking (rubber tool etc) and once I'm happy I'll roll it out to the rest of the manipulatives. mathsbot.com/manipulative...

Was very nice to hear a new Year 8 student say they finally get bus stop now! Gets rid of the cognitive load of 3 mini processes in their head at once.
#MathsToday Trying this out with some of my weaker groups for those who can't abstract the remainders for bus stop. I know someone somewhere will have given this a name but for now I'm calling it Medium Division 😂

This week's blog is on 3D solids, and specifically which hills to die/survive on. Part 2 on volume and surface area coming soon! jwrightmaths.substack.com/p/3d-solids?...

I'm going to try to do #MathsToday as consistently as possible this year (although I might struggle on days when I only teach Computer Science!). Today, in my first lesson with Y10, we did some of @dandraper.bsky.social's lovely significant figures tasks: mrdrapermaths.wordpress.com/2020/11/14/z...

As promised, an update on what I'm working on this year: • The blog is still going, first post should have dropped today (jwrightmaths.substack.com/p/creating-a...) • I am stepping into the YouTube realm, with the aim of helping parents of low attainers (youtube.com/@jwrightmath...)

Took the substack plunge. Middle leadership is something that can be done in solitude, thankfully that wasn't the case for me! I just wanted to write a piece for future HoDs of all the things that helped my during my first year in post (you all get a shout out too you lovely lot)

After 20 years in #maths #education I thought I knew everything there was to know about #fractions. That is until a video crossed my path with a beautifully simple result. Read my latest (relatively short) blog post to find out what the result was: educatingmrmattock.blogspot.com/2026/06/an-a...
